Who from the current WWE is even going to want to talk to this kid? Are you suggesting wrestlers don't like jazz piano?

There is no guarantee David Benoit knew what Smith Hart was saying to people though. Benoit knew that Hart posted the following to FACEBOOK: "CHAVO will be making his debut and along side a young and very energetic soon to be recognized talent of 'David BENOIT' ... Yes you heard that correct - 'David BENOIT!'" Benoit also knew that he was untrained, obviously. I'm not saying we crucify the kid. I'm saying don't hold him accountable for his father's acts but DO hold him accountable for his own. If you truly want to treat him outside of the shadow of his last name do so by realizing that he was in the wrong to some degree.

It's just a name. Giving him a new name wont change who he is, and will likely bring about the Streisand effect (look it up).
I don't see why he has to be shamed into not promoting himself just because his dad was a f***ing moron. He is who he is.

Oh I know, but that's not on David Benoit, that's on the ever annoying Smith Hart who will do ANYTHING for promotion without enough actual effort. And the latter report says that Benoit didn't lie about his training, that Smith did, so again that points to the promoter rather than Benoit. Giving David every benefit of the doubt and assuming every bad idea and communication error was the fault of Smith Hart, David still (until Jericho stepped in) was going along with it. So I think at the very least he was complicit in gaining from his father's deeds being exploited and I have no respect for him because of that. I suppose knowing Smith Hart has a past of just being a bit of a tool means the responsibility sits with him as the booker/advertiser, plus every single news story about Chavo & Jericho stepping in and cancelling it all has mentioned Hart as the catalyst for all promotion. In the verbal/written history of the 'son of the murderer! You heard right, his first match!' story, it's all on Hart, not one person involved criticized David Benoit for it so in regards to hard facts 100% of the blame has to be placed on the promoter. EDIT: It's fair to feel Benoit should have stood up and went 'oy, Smith, stop that' but given he was an ultra green rookie (how many rookies are told to learn to respect their elders/bookers until they have experience?) as well, but I think it may be fairer to say you're wary of David Benoit wrestling under the Benoit name for now rather than blaming him for a Smith Hart problem.

Has anyone stopped to think maybe this is the kids way of working out what happened with his family, wrestling might be his "dragon" so to speak. Maybe making it in the business is how he wants to get over all the horribleness of his dad's problems and slay that "dragon", he's prolly thinking he can become so good no one will even mention his dad anymore. I think a lot of people are being to quick to call him a fame whore, when it seems to me a troubled individual trying to work through his issues on his own that's something to commend.
Edit: Few people mentioned this

As far as David Benoit ever making it to WWE, I was originally of the opinion that it would never happen but as I sit back and look at the two most recent HoFs, I know more than ever know that you cannot count anything out when it comes to WWE, Vince McMahon, and Triple H. Yes what his father did was abhorrent but he is not his father and if he can learn and keep his nose clean, I see no reason he could not get a shot. Time changes minds, opinion and facts, in 5 or 10 years who knows what state WWE will be in, what the overall mood will be when it comes to the name Benoit and what this kid will be doing.

Since he looks so much like his dad, what if WWE hired him then went back and redubbed all the old Benoit footage to have people saying "David" over ever "Chris" in a super obvious "Mr. Black"? Meanwhile, on TV, he's dressed like his dad and wrestling exactly like him.

Honestly, I feel like if he put on a mask or something and they called him Lightning Kid or some other gimmick, there would ALWAYS be guys in the crowd shouting "IT'S BENOIT!" or trying to get chants going. Hell, ROH even saw people doing Benoit chants at Davey Richards, including a particularly tasteless "Goodnight Daniel!" If you're wondering if people would look the other way, the answer is no, though if you're not hiding it, they might accept it over time.

Fair play to the guy if he wants to get into Wrestling. Obviously I can understand if they won't let him use the Benoit name, but he should be allowed a chance. One problem he'd also have in the WWE is he looks really similar to his father, so he'd probably need a mask or something. I got it!! We could get him a mask, and call him the Pegasus Ki-...... Oh yeah.

Why? He didn't murder Nancy and Daniel. I fail to see the logic behind dooming this kid just because of acts that his father committed. As long as he has support and guidance, he can have a much better career than his father without living in his shadow. The WWE would NEVER hire him. NEVER. This is horseshit.

I just don't get it. Because early in his ROH run he was playing Benoit and Dynamite Kid and made no effort to hide it. I think it was on a Crossface spot a few months after the Double Murder-Suicide that it happened. So bad wrestler aping spots + smarky dipshit heckler = Bad times.

The only worse case scenario I imagine if the crowd are a bunch of snarky snoots that want to be controversial and chant Chris Benoit.

Shit from reading just "Benoit" in the title, I thought they were gonna do an angle of papa shango raising the dead. From reading Jericho's second book, Daniel was a huge fan and loved wrestling, I hope he continues to pursue his dream, and eventually forms the new radicalz with Shaul Guerero and Dominick Mysterio, have Dean Malenko in a mentor's role like Peppy Hare from Star Fox.

That might be one of the few angles that would actually get me to stop watching wrestling forever.
