You could hang out with Larry, his Brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl.

Not a whole heck of a lot, especially if you're not into skiing. Or ice cream, or teddy bears.

I went to college in Vermont for a few years.
From that, I could say: Thank god my school was almost exactly on the New York border.
Head someplace that has civilization or try to enjoy the ice cream or teddy bears (though that's not totally fair, Rave- they DO have maple syrup too...)

Pretty sure the highest rated beer on beer advocate is a Vermont beer.

Downtown Burlington is lovely, especially the waterfront and Church Street. Saint Albans is also pretty nice, though getting around there right now might be a pain because I think they're still doing some road construction in the city portion. Like Flec says, though, head for civilization and stay near there. A lot of Vermont is VERY rural and easy to get completely lost in.
Definitely take the Ben and Jerry's and the Vermont Teddy Bear Company factory tours. Just watch out regarding the latter's gift shop, pretty much everything is very expensive. There's the Magic Hat brewery, I think they give tours too. And there's always the Christmas Loft if you're into Christmas stuff or just want a lovely little shop to walk around in, it's pretty much deserted this time of year so you won't be bothered much.

In defense of the problems with how rural Vermont is, though- if you go during the fall, the rural nature makes it a worthwhile visit just due to the foliage changing over.
If you're going this August, though...uh...you really picked the wrong time to go.

If you're going this August, though...uh...you really picked the wrong time to go. Why?? As was said: Vermont is rural. Normally, this leads to a need for civilization, but in the fall, the rural nature leads to really, really great foliage, so it'll be really beautiful and be much more enjoyable (and in winter, skiing starts to add more benefits.) Going in the summer, by contrast, isn't as nice.
