Underrated, underappreciated or not talked about as much as they should be, in TV or movies. Who would they be for you?
For me Peter Sarsgaard always comes to mind. Yes he has had some misses, like in Green Lantern, but I feel his cliche and cheesy performance was due to the direction and not him personally. He blew me away in Shattered Glass (a truly underrated movie i feel), Garden State, Flight Plan, Rendition (watching it now for the first time, inspiration for the thread), Kinsey. He has such intensity and presence, that it is staggering to me. Especially in the third act of Shattered Glass he steals the whole damn movie. He should from my view be regarded higher in Hollywood and independents than what he is.

For me the first to come to mind will always be Mark Dacascos. Phenomenal action star, and unlike many of his peers he can act his socks off when given the chance. Sadly, he's almost always been in horrible direct-to-video releases. He's got a cushy job as the Chairman on Iron Chef America and a recurring role as Wo Fat on Hawaii Five-O, but he could be doing so much more.

Stanley Tucci makes everything better.
He works a lot but I want more Tucci dammit.

Scott Adkins.
Why this man is not one of the major action stars right now is a complete tradgedy.
Not like he cannot act either...El Gringo was great and his NINJA movies and then there is of course Undisputed 2 and 3.

Stanley Tucci makes everything better. He works a lot but I want more Tucci dammit. The highest compliment I can give to an actor is not even noticing that they're in a film because they 'become' the character so much. Stanley Tucci did that in The Lovely Bones. He was completely unrecognisable right down to his body language and voice. The rest of that film sucked a bag of dicks, but hey, you know, whatever.

Drive from 1997 with him is awesome and should be better known. An actor I really enjoy who doesn't get enough credit is Kevin Corrigan.

Brad Dourif is a great actor outside of Chucky. I was always surprised he never because that iconic character actor in the Gary Oldman or Christopher Walken sense.
Also Leon/Leon Robinson. He tore it up as David Ruffin in the Temptations mini-series.

William Fichtner: So he's been in a lot of Ridley Scott and Michael Bay blockbusters, but the man can act. He's played everything from a gangster to a lawyer, to an astronaut, to a Delta Force operator, you name it. Very versatile actor.

Not sure if this counts, but Jack Black.
When he tones down the wacky, he can be really solid.

Most years that performance would be good enough for an Oscar, unfortunately for him, it was the same year as Inglourious Basterds and Christoph Waltz had that one in the bag before the nominations were even announced. My pick would be Ewan McGregor. I know he's pretty highly rated by most people but I don't think he gets enough credit as an actor. He was fantastic in Trainspotting, yet wasn't Oscar nominated for it, he never even got a BAFTA nom. In fact, he's never been nominated for a BAFTA or an Oscar in his career. Which when you think of some of his other great performances like Shallow Grave, The Impossible, Big Fish, Black Hawk Down and Moulin Rouge, is surprising. He was also the best thing about the Star Wars prequels by a country mile.

I have always found Karl Urban to be very underrated. Had Dredd done well, he would of been catapulted to the top.

For me? Justin Timberlake. I know, I know. But the dude's just so likeable. I liked him a lot in Alpha Dog. I liked him a lot in Friends with Benefits. Dude's fun.

I'd say Robert Englund (Freddy Kreuger) is underrated, guy has a lot of charisma even out of that role, but never got many big roles after that.
For stalwarts who are great, Ed Harris comes to mind, Naomi Watts, etc.
