Oh, if only I could find an unopened NES for $80 today, and an unopened copy of Zelda for $35.

More $100 for Toejam and Earl Is that a Canadian ad or something? Yes it is. Consumers Distributing (top right corner) was a Canadian company. Video game prices were always really expensive here back in the day. I remember when Street Fighter II: Turbo came out for the SNES and some stores were selling it for $110.

So now I know (rough estimate) what my aunt paid for the Nintendo 8-bit system with R.O.B. Those of us who had to actually buy SMB separate.
As for the 1996 ad, that sounds about right with what I paid for the Genesis.

It's crazy that those systems cost that much back in '97/'98.
How I do miss the Nintendo 64 though. The last Nintendo system that was worth a shit and had decent games.

I was starting to feel old...until I came across this even older ad that I saw everywhere as a kid.

I used to be HYPED about hitting Toys R' Us.
It's just like a store, except with all that lame stuff like food and clothing. Also, the game ticket mechanic felt exotic somehow.

See, stuff like this amazes me that people these days complain about the price of games and DLC. Some Super Nintendo games were $70. So your latest gen game with graphics that are light years better than 20 years ago is $60 with optional DLC ... everybody should be thankful that the price of games hasn't gone up with inflation. Well, those Madden cartridges/CDs are pretty worthless today. I still see plenty of Madden and NFL/NHL/MLB Genesis games at goodwill.

I remember playing the original Atari. What was that 2 bits? 4 bits.

Holy f***. I had no idea the SNES and games were that much. I still have it 20 years on so I guess my parents got their money worth. I still need to beat Donkey Kong 2 though.

Makes me feel bad for making my parents spend so much on games.

No wonder my mom and dad used to stress about buying me a game back in the day. Not that it was an every day occurrence, but I can definitely see why.
