See, stuff like this amazes me that people these days complain about the price of games and DLC. Some Super Nintendo games were $70. So your latest gen game with graphics that are light years better than 20 years ago is $60 with optional DLC ... everybody should be thankful that the price of games hasn't gone up with inflation.

I always thought one reason game prices have stayed the same and even got cheaper is due to optical media. It is easier to press out a few cds/BluRays/etc than carts.

In a world where pretty much every last thing has raised in price steadily over the years, though, games have stayed pretty much the same. Extra money for some extra stuff shouldn't upset people as much as it does, in my opinion. At least it doesn't upset me as much as others, and this is one of the reasons why. Edit: If Toejam and Earl can be $98.88, I don't mind paying $80 for a WWE game plus DLC, that's all I'm saying.

Optical discs are vastly cheaper than a cart.

That's why when you was a kid in the 80's and 90's you rented. I wasn't able to get a new $60 dollar game every month

Most of the games I played were rentals. Buying Yoshi's Island was a special moment for me, because it was the first SNES game I bought myself. I remember saving for weeks, then having my aunt and uncle pick it up for me at Toys R Us on a sales weekend, because my mom was working. It's crazy how much games cost back then.

And now I know why I could never get any new games when I had an NES/SNES/Genesis as a kid: Those prices are ridiculous! Espicially $100 for Toe Jam & Earl. That's only about 50 bucks less than how much the console costs!

I actually remember that exact ad in the OP, because that Christmas I had to decide between the N64 or the Saturn or the Playstation and I remember seeing that ad that you could get 3 free games with the Saturn, so that's what I chose, not understanding that they were giving them away because they weren't doing so hot. I think only got maybe 2 or 3 more games for the Saturn before deciding on buying the Playstation with money I saved up a few months later.

More $100 for Toejam and Earl Is that a Canadian ad or something? Because in the US, I don't remember Genesis games being nearly $100 each (aside from Virtua Racing and maybe some RPGs). For the most part, it seems like new Genesis games were about $50.00 on average while new SNES games were $65.00 or $75.00 That's one reason my parents usually bought me the Genesis version of games like Mortal Kombat 2 over the graphically superior (but more expensive) SNES versions. But hell, I was just happy whenever I got a new game.
