I just realized that KOTR 1994 may be one of the few (if not the only) PPV where all the members of the broadcasting team are deceased (Monsoon, Savage, and Art Donovan).

In modern wrestling, yeah, I guess.

Not as morbid, but none of the wrestlers in the KOTR tournament would win a World Title in WWE. 1989 is the only other KOTR with that distinction.

It may sound morbid but I sometimes sit there and go through the cards of old PPVs and see how many matches have at least one participant who is dead. Particularly sad is one of the matches from Survivor Series 1988 where you have a team which is made up of Andre, Dino Bravo, Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect. Harley Race is the fifth member of that team but seeing how tough everyone says he is, when the Grim Reaper goes to see Harley, he'd probably no sell it and tell Death to f*** off.

KOTR '94 is up there in regards to having a high "morality" rate.
Owen, Mabel, Yoko, Crush, Macho, Gorilla, Art Donovan, Bam Bam, Capt. Lou, and Joey Morella are all dead.

Given how many wrestlers died young, I can't really blame anybody for doing that. Morbid, yes, but it's so unavoidable.
At the end of the OSW Review episode for Wrestlemania VII they point out how many people on that card died in the years that followed: Kerry Von Erich, Dino Bravo, Davey Boy, Sherri, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Mr. Perfect, Crush, Boss Man, Andre, Earthquake, Hercules, Road Warrior Hawk, and Monsoon up in commentary. Juxtapose that with the NFL, which has had tons of issues with older players developing brain issues due to poor diagnoses of concussions and what have you, where nobody who played in the Super Bowl that year has died yet. Granted, the football players were mostly younger, but the point stands with regards to the sheer fatality rate. Scary stuff.

I always compare the death rate of wrestlers with the 1966 Football/Soccer world Cup Final. 22 Players involved in that game almost 50 years ago, only 4 dead (All of natural causes, all past 50 years old). Not sure why I always use that as a comparison but its a rather sobering fact for the Wrestling industry.

I figured that's what this thread would be about (well not specifically the commentary team, but dead talent nonetheless).

I couldn't help but marvel at how, with the generals of the American Civil War, almost all of them are dead. I think fame went to their heads.

I remember watching old movies with my dad as a kid, and he'd always point out which actors were dead - "John Wayne died a while back. And there's Rock Hudson. He's dead, too." Now I watch old PPVs with my girlfriend, and I'm doing the same thing - "Mr. Perfect died a while back. And there's Big Boss Man. He's dead, too."
