Giving the AP a vote was slightly better, although I oppose it in ideological grounds. A lot of reporters are homers for their team, and while they may not be apparently biased in their stories, polls are often a different matter because they see these teams all the time, and local media outlets don't want to anger a college program if it came out that they voted against them to get a better seed. The problem with that is a lot of them didn't even watch highlights, they saw the score and voted that way. Hell some of them even admitted that they punished Oklahoma State in 2011 because they didn't shut out the Sooners, granted their poll didn't factor into the BCS. Yeah, that was another thing. Human polls are a great idea, as computers can't really factor in how a team won, but the problem is they were still being voted on by humans, who can't possibly watch every game in a year and, even if they could, couldn't be expected to vote without bias.

Charlie Strong has booted both of Texas's starting OT's, BOTH. That is a lot of players gone. So, was Brown really just that lax and the horns just had that many sketchy players or has Strong gone too far?

@longhornnetwork 47s
Per Texas, Kennedy Estelle and Desmond Harrison suspended for BYU only. Texas says both players are still members of the team.

They were saying elsewhere the guys were gone completely. One noncon game isn't so bad. Ya BYU is a name opponent but at least you have them for UCLA and the conference sched.

Have to see how well they defend the run this time Hill flat-out clowned them last season. This should be a good measuring-stick for how far that D has come, Strong is a defensive guy and you know the horns have talent so the improvement could be pretty considerable. As I said earlier Hill is my fantasy qb so I'm hoping for big things this Saturday, Ash and the OT's being out should help some, gets me the ball back more.

Uncle Charlie is dead on right. I respect him for the hard line he has taken with discipline. No offense to Mack Brown, but he had lost theability to manage the egos he recruited. It can happen easily. In my line of work I have to reign in 19-24 year olds frequently. If I or one of my fellow leaders fail to do this the behavior will breed like a virus and the negative synergistic effects can destroy our ability to accomplish our job. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to do this with kids who you had to convince they are a star just to get them on your team. We have the benefit of getting them broken of individualism and humble right off the bat. A football coach gets raw egotistic spoiled kids

I am going to be covering football for my college paper this year (I go to Salisbury University in east Maryland, a division III school). It's my first time covering any kind of sport for anything outside of motorsports for websites. Anybody have any advice? I didn't even know anyone on this board went there. I just took a campus visit there yesterday (probably going in January pending on how the next 3 months goes). But, for covering the sport, you're going to want to have knowledge of the team on terms of the players, coaches, and games themselves. I recommend getting to talking to the coaches during the week and after games to discuss the season, perhaps even interview some of the players. When you're covering the actual Saturday games themselves be sure to be able to summarize the events of the game from start to finish, list stats from notable players (like QB, RB, and WR) and basically the way I would write about each event in the season, I'd write it like it was a story, keeps the readers interested and looks good later on. Cool and thanks man.

Florida State has restarted its Title IX investigation into sexual assault allegations made against redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston.
John Clune, an attorney for the accuser, confirmed that the school restarted its investigation by speaking with his client. "Clune said the lengthy interview with his client gave FSU more information than it previously had from the Tallahassee police department investigation," USA Today wrote. Because of that meeting, the accuser’s legal team "expects that there will be code of conduct charges that will be brought" against Winston. Added Clune: "There’s no basis not to bring those charges now." Title IX investigations should be shorter than 60 days, mandates the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. If Winston is found guilty, he faces a wide range of punishment outcomes ranging from a verbal slap on the wrist to an expulsion. It's not yet known if FSU has interviewed Winston since re-opening the investigation. Winston and his attorney have not yet publicly commented on the report.

They should have a Penn State-like 'cleansing' for everyone that participated in covering this up. I just read this sad factoid in an article about the investigation: So basically, FSU potentially helped out a rapist because he's good at football. Jesus f***ing Christ.

Fresno State's AD is campaigning for an invitation to the Big 12, pointing out that it would give the conference inroads into the state of California. Not touching the FSU thing until more facts come out. That thing never sat right with me but I'm not going to say put in penn state sanctions based on an assumption. I'm glad they are opening the investigation back up anyhow. Enough of that for now Fresno state in the Big XII via in roads to California. Well Texas already has them and has recruited form there for years. So has OU. But, if you look down the road a Big XII network will happen on a wide stage. When it does Texas will want to exploit Their existing fanbase in. California(they are a nationwide, hell worldwide brand I have seen hats and jerseys for sale in Baghdad, Soul and the mid west of America). If they want eye balls over a wide area than Fresno is a good idea but you'd maybe need Nevada, Air Force and Utah state...maybe...maybe...Boise. New Mexico is Texas tech's sphere and UNM&NM state. Arizona is futile picking ground but they can't hope to steal any AZ team except maybe the Luke Air Force base flag football champions. The Big XII needs to pull its head out of the sand or its own a$$(OrTexas's) and expand. They are tragically behind and it will get worse the further we go with the playoff. A championship game is a must and the rules say 12 teams or no game. Baylor or OU could run the table and get squeezed out if a one loss PAC or B1G team played and won a championship game. Let's say FSU wins out. The SEC champion is in(I didn't make it that way but it is that way). The Pac 12 champion is in and the B1G champion as well unless a real eyeball test and a tremendous body of work outshines it. Otherwise the Big XII champ maybe out in the cold this yr and next. I say sign a Fresno and Air Force right now and negotiate the rest. If you don't want Air. Force than I am sure Nevada would jump.
