It not really a new trend to remastered and released older games on newer systems. Yes, but the 2 main games I'm talking about are less than a year old. I guess there could also be a case made for game of the year editions.

I think remakes are fine as long as it's not a remaster from a game from the last generation. There needs to be at least a 2 gen gap in order for a remaster. Part of me says this because I've been playing Wind Waker HD as of late.

Just like the recording industry. A new format so they can sell you the products you already own, just shinier. Why spend effort producing something new when you can just dust off an old hit and slap a new coat of paint on it? Taking the slippery slope, imagine if every game was like the Madden series. The same game over and over with only minor changes year after year.

I'd love to see more classic games remade if they were done as well as Ducktales and Castle of Illusion. I'm with you. Two games I really loved on NES were Wrath of the Black Manta and Werewolf: The Last Warrior. I think it'd be really fun to see these games make a come back today. I'd also love to see Jackal from the NES, make a comeback as well. Sadly, I think they'd turn it from a Jeep battle game, to a dumbass 1st person shooter (God knows we don't have enough of those f***ing things!) but still....

I'm looking forward to this because I downloaded the original from the PSN last year for cheap and on top of being ugly as sin (to be expected) I found it damn near impossible to pull off a headshot because I couldn't see where I was aiming most of the time

It's just because the new generation of consoles wasn't quite ready when these games were released, otherwise they would've been released simultaneously on them like other recent games were. (Black Flag, for example.) Now if we're going to complain about video game remasters, I say complain about all these turbo HD remixes of PS2 games that amount to little more than things being a little more shiny due to HD and still being charged full price for. If I'm paying full price for a remake of a video game, I expect a remade video game from the ground up, not just something they put a new filter over. This. I can't complain about them because it's better than them waiting for solely a next gen release and alienating a bunch of people. I agree on the PS2 point as well. I remember when I heard about the MGS HD remastering, I figured we'd be getting SoL and Snake Eater in MGS4 graphics, but instead we just get kinda cleaner looking textures. Now Oddworld's New 'N Tasty, that's how you do a HD remake. That shit's beautiful, yet still retains the soul of the original. Oh, and I hope the RE remake has the updated control schemes. I wanted to go back and play the original recently (My dad played it when I was a kid and wouldn't let me, one time I snuck a go I got scared by the dogs and had nightmares <____<), but the control scheme just got to me after a while and I couldn't continue.

I wouldn't necessarily say too soon, I would, however, say that a lot of these "remasters" are garbage in the end.
The rule of thumb seems to be: A.) Update the graphics. Clean them up and be sure to do so in a fashion the makes them alien from the original experience. Just make it look like a XBL game. Who cares? B.) Break the controls. It's not as if the super tight setup for the original game was at all a factor in why people would care enough about it to maybe buy it again. Make it play like butts. C.) Remove soul. Whatever it was that made the game unique and provocative, kill it. Kill it with fire.

There is one thing that I'd like to mention. I have to say that Sega would probably make a lot of money had they made a deal with Bomber Games for "Streets of Rage Remake" if it would have been released on PSN and Xbox Live. If anybody has played "Streets of Rage Remake," it really does the old games justice and you can choose the path you'd like to go. You could try doing the first game's walkthrough, same with the second and third games. Then you also had the game's own original storyline. If only Sega didn't request for the game to be pulled. They could have made a deal with the developers of that game and make some serious money off of it.
Now I have heard negativity surrounding "TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled." Is it true that version sucked?

Is it true that version sucked? Reshelled was kind of ok. The problem is they made it so you can be attacked from 3 dimensions, but you can really only attack in one. It leads to a lot of cheap hits. Yet it manages to be tons easier than the OG.

SOR Remake looked absolutely fantastic, and it baffles me that Sega opted to shut them down rather than license it for distribution, especially after they essentially did just that with Sonic Retro's 360 version of Sonic CD and the mobile remasters of Sonic 1 and 2. Speaking of Sonic 2, the fan-made HD remake was recently announced to be back on track after shutting down a couple of years ago. I'm looking forward to this one. The core of the game isn't too bad. It's a fairly faithful recreation of the original's gameplay, but I despise the look of the game. There Is Nothing Left's complaint of "Update the graphics. Clean them up and be sure to do so in a fashion the makes them alien from the original experience. Just make it look like a XBL game." really rings true. I think the game would have looked so much better if it had been cell-shaded to recreate the look of the cartoon.

I'd actually like to see a "remaster" of the first Assassin's Creed. The first game is really rough around the edges in gameplay compared to the second game and on. Make the guards less aggressive, fighting MUCH better, and make the memories leading up to the Assassination missions more story-oriented and less repetitive.

As much as I enjoyed the game at the start, it needs rebuilding from the second third onwards to add the variety of missions that were present from the sequel onwards. Personally, I'd happily pay for enhanced remasters/remakes of all the Assassin's Creed games. The graphical difference for a start between the Altair/Ezio games and Black Flag is huge, and from the looks of it the jump from Black Flag to Unity is almost as big again.

Yeah, the jump from AC1 to AC2 alone is pretty big in graphics and especially the gameplay.
Another thing I'd like to see in an AC1 remaster: Cas Anvar as Altair, who voiced him in Revelations.

The remasters of GTAV and The Last of Us are obviously just because there's easy money to be made from porting them to the next gen. At least they're making the effort to optimise the games rather than just porting them as is with no improvements. Which is true, but this kind of stuff leads to bad trends. If all of a sudden we start seeing things like Lolipop Chainsaw Remastered, we're in trouble. ...that actually could be pretty interesting, but I like Suda51, so I'm biased.

Since most consoles lack backwards compatability, I have no problem with it. It's not like there are no new interesting games out, but changing out a console every time you wanted to play a classic game would be a pain in the ass.
This doesn't apply if they change things for the worse, obviously.

I know what you mean. I have the game on a disc that a friend of mine burned for me and I have not played it in a while. However, from what I've seen on YouTube, it was updated for years and years until 2011 when we got the final version, and then came Sega's request to have the game shut down. I don't quite understand this. I mean for starters, the developers were obviously fans of the series and did the games justice and the graphics looked phenomenal, not to mention the idea of having unlockable characters including Mr. X, and then you also had an original character in that kunoichi character. It's been two decades since SoR3 and we need something new. Whether it's a sequel (Even if it were done in the style of "Spikeout") or a remake, I would be up for it.
