Bang on. A great example of this is 30 Seconds to Mars' situation with their third album, This is War. The album sold four million copies, and it's singles sold an additional one million, and the band saw pennies out of that due to the contract they had with EMI (which had been subject to a lawsuit filed by the band before the album was released). As a result they toured nonstop from February 2010 until December 2011 just to make money from the album. Music industry is messed up, man. But in this case, 30STM sold millions of albums. Fozzy didn't even sell 6,000 so it's insane to think that they're able to play such big shows if no one's buying their cd. And that's just their most recent one. The ones before that probably sold even less week 1 Record sales aren't always the best barometer for the demands for live performances. Fozzy may have only sold 6,000 records, but they have almost 200,000 fans on Facebook, and 68,000 followers on Twitter. Throw in those who are fans of Jericho and you've got a lot of people who might be willing to go out to a show if they're playing locally. I've been to a couple of their shows, and there's always been a full house.

I'm finally making the declaration that Fozzy is almost worth no listener's time at this point.
I dug the comedy vibe of the whole thing at first, even the music. Most of the covers they did were top notch.
They mainly just latch onto slightly bigger bands than them at this point, or play some festival where they play 5 songs at 2 PM.
If Jericho can make it back in December or so, they need to build him a great WM plan, at this rate, may be his last.

The ones before that probably sold even less week 1 Digital sales are often tougher to peg accurate scores down, plus, it's the music business, if you have a gimmick (wrestling Jericho as a singer) then you're able to pull in favours. If you've got friends as promoters/venue owners/Festival promoters then you can skip a lot of what wrestling would call paying your dues. Plus Fozzy don't tend to play massive venues at all, 3/4pm Festival slots are their biggest sort of spots outside of support for BIG bands so yeah. Plus a few of the band members used to be in semi-successful semi-independent bands so whilst Jericho is the gimmick for the band, I believe the guitarist and the drummer were with Stuck Mojo and they had an alright North America career so they probably had a few people they knew over their 20 year career they could chat to/arrange favours/have various managers be able to get them onto places they'd never get to otherwise. There's tons of ways bands tour without sales, it can be agreements band management makes with a label to be stuck on bigger bands tours as support, if the label/management of both bands think it's gone well they can work their arses off to convince venues to take the smaller band and let them play. Or it could just be agreements to let people talk to the gimmick of any given band after a gig. Jericho doesn't act like a huge rock star to fans -even if he tries to give that off on his podcast/shows he's a human being who is polite enough as he needs fan support- so yeah, tons of ways bands tour without necessarily being huge if they have a gimmick or two. Those gimmicks can include music videos on TV too, so with Fozzy having a few of those even if people never bought the singles/albums, they can get people who've seen them to go "Oh, my MMA! That song we hears-" "It's Enemy, not MMA." "Oh whatever, the gigs a tenner and we have nothing to do tonight."

I think Fozzy would be bigger if Jericho had let the wwe help them from the beginning, but he rejected them opting to do it on his own. I think that was a mistake, even The Rock let the wwe umbrella help him before he became a mega star. I also think that people didn't take them seriously at the beginning because of that "Mongoose McQueen" deal, while it was funny their spiral tap tribute, most people didn't got it.

Bands rarely make much from CD sales. It's all about the live events. Not just in ticket sales (since that gets split up among the different bands) but sales of things like t-shirts (where most of the money goes to the bands).

Whenever Jericho is in the WWE, Mongoose McQueen takes over for him in Fozzy. They really look a lot alike.

By this point, he's probably got enough cash saved up, that he just does what he WANTS to do now, regardless of what makes the most money.
