Yes it's so amazing how great the first 2/3 of the movie was, the last 1/3 of the movie when they finally morphed. I really was invested in all of the character's stories and each character (barring Alpha 5) had an arc that ended logically. I honestly thought Kimberly's subplot with the bullies was going to suck, but it makes sense why everything happened to her. Also Billy was my favorite power ranger in the movie (I was always partial to Zack in the original show) and I nearly lost it {Spoiler}when he died.

The second worst part of the movie was all the design changes (I didn't mind Zordon's aesthetic or the idea that the command center is a crashed ship or whatever it was). The actual worst part was the constant edgy attitude of everyone - aside from Billy, they're all obnoxious assholes (yes, I know it was part of building them...still made it hard for me to be empathetic). Even Zordon was kind of a dick when he was supposed to be this wise and collected being. The movie spent a great deal of time building these characters up, which I guess is a positive if you like how they turned out, but all the Ranger stuff felt so anticlimactic. One of the best things about Power Rangers is the concept of these really cool looking Zords combining in unique mechanical ways, not just melding together into some uninspired combination. All of a sudden they're just driving these things, they're rarely in focus since it's the Transformer-inspired "realistic" design mixed with modern action directing, and then the aforementioned combination process. You'd think Zordon would give them a head's up. And then it all just kind of wraps up, and everyone is toocool4skool to take anything seriously. I'm sure if I could look beyond all that I would've liked it more. It was certainly funny at times and visually interesting, and they did put an effort into building them up as a team (Billy was a great character). I just never found myself getting into it. You can tell they were afraid to even play the frickin' theme out of fear it was too campy or whatever. The end credits had an awesome cover of it, so what gives with the 10 seconds in the movie?

I thought the Megazord looked crappy, but overall it was a fun movie.

GF dragged me to this today cause it was my birthday. (It was this or Beauty and The Beast)
Context: I was in Kindergarten when the series first came out, obsessed, realized it was campy silly fun.
That being said...maaaaan this was a tough watch. I just kept telling myself "This isn't aimed at you. It's aimed at kids. Teens. Maybe even young adults.
The good? Rita. Megazord actually looked good. The "mythology" behind the Power Rangers. Jason/Billy. The moment that the Rangers actually Transformed. The training montage. Soundtrack.
The Bad? Kim/Zack/Trinny could not respectively act for shit. So angsty. So conflicted. Such unlikeable characters (maybe it's cause they're teenagers and I'm old and teens are typically f***ing annoying as all hell) And although the moment when they morphed seemed warranted the "event" that propelled it and all that led up to it was executed so bad. Again. I think it's he acting. Maybe directing? Not sure
The Ugly? Goldars a big walking pile of gold shit. All the CW/chronicle/gritty breakfast club wannabe approach leading up to the end when suddenly they insert the original series corny AF theme. Such a stark juxtaposition of tones and while I especially hate the former. I've kind of outgrown the latter. And again, for emphasis all the characters besides Jason/Billy and maybe Alpha 5.
Again. I'm sure kids/teens/youth will love it but a lot of people around my age seem to like it and I can't wrap my head around why. There's not a lot of nostalgia (if that's what you're looking for) and as a stand-alone film it's average at best (maybe spectacular if it came out 5-7 years ago)
I think I enjoyed the directing but my Gf felt a lot of the shots were "artsy Fartsy". I feel the best humor came out during commercials but the rest didn't really hit me: Some Billy/Alpha 5 lines were amusing.
I'm sure it's going to be a huge success and sell a lot of Toys and if they do a sequel, it should totally be in the vein of the last part of the film: light, entertaining, action packed, a little silly. Leave the angsty shit at the door but either way, I'm good fam.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} So I heard they removed the Kim and Jason romance scene because when fans saw it they hated it {Spoiler}Probably for the best, so as to not make Kim nothing but a simple love interest for Jason, which the director said was the other reason why he gutted that scene.

This is sort of gives them option as they can still pursue the Kim/Jason romance if they make Tommy a girl

Kim and Trini during the King-Fu Panda like bit with them trying to get the last bit of doughnut during the training montage, on the other hand...

Saw it today+, and I pretty much agree with the general consensus that Power Rangers was a fun little well acted movie all around. Sure it wasn't a perfect film, but I wasn't bored and actually got invested in what happened to the Rangers (yeah I too got the feels when we got to "that" scene before the the climax.)
The in costume action scenes were fun I just wished there were more of them. Yeah I know the whole point was supposed be them coming together as a team and "earning" their armor, but maybe they could have done a scene or two where were able to all morph briefly yet get totally get outmatched and de-morphed because they were holding back their true feelings or something. Sure It's a common theme that comes up in a lot of toku, but it's still an effective one.
Other than that not much to really complain about, and I hope to see more of this version of the franchise.

The '95 movie theme being used was nice, but I kinda was hoping for a full orchestral version of the theme song.

Just got back from watching it and it was really good, much better than expected. It was nice for the movie to actually put heart and effort into the characters before they morphed. I enjoyed it and hope that, if there's a sequel, they do spend a bit more time in the costumes though.

i saw it after the weekend it was good, imo. but in my opinion the goldar from the tv show looked better and so did zordon and alpha. only complaints, though. everything was good, even though it had a slow beginning to set everything up. it's well worth it. and look for 2 familiar faces at the end after the final battle is done. see if your an recognize them now.
