It should be pointed out that these comments were before Robin Williams committed suicide. Now that it makes them any better, it's just worth pointing out. That's not the point, Williams should not be a factor in this at all. To be dismissive of those who struggle with depression and suicidal urges every day and to just think they are losers is insensitive at best and completely irresponsible at worst. Case closed.

Maybe I'm misreading this but why are you getting hot at me? I said it doesn't make the comments any better but these comments are probably only becoming "relevant" now because of Robin Williams. Actually I made a typo in my OP but it's still pretty clear what I'm saying.

How I wrote the post was as if I were speaking to Simmons, but I did not frame it correctly. Forgive and forget?

What's with famous people thinking that they can say whatever the hell that they want, say that they were misunderstood, apologize for the confusion, and expect everything to be hunky-dory? Seriously!Edit: Wow, so that is what the "sarcasm" font looks like.

Just got onto Kiss Online and saw this, I'm honestly surprised he said anything, but I give him props for doing so. It doesn't change the fact that what he said was stupid, but it's something. It should be noted that radio stations here in the US and Australia (where the band continued to score hit singles during the band's lean years) very publicly banned their records in the wake of Gene's comments.

The US doesn't surprise me too much, but Australia does considering how big KISS was, and maybe still is (I don't know) there. I feel bad for the other guys in the band; you never hear Paul, Eric or Tommy say anything even remotely controversial, and then you have an ass like Gene who takes any opportunity he can to rile people up. I'd hate to have to deal with that.

There are 20 year old KISS fans? Man I bet those guys have a real reason to be depressed. I thought all KISS fans were menopausal aged leathery biker women and the men who still want to bang them.

I loved KISS when I was a kid and I still love their make-up era stuff, but I lost a lot of respect for Paul and Gene over the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame debacle.

I think to punish KISS as a whole(by banning their songs from radio) over the actions of Gene is kind of dumb.
You know what would teach him? Start playing "Beth".

There will always be teens listening to bands with guys as old or even older then their parents. Back in high school in the late 90s, I saw girls who were really into led zeppelin and the beatles. Hell, you see teens today with shirts of 30 year old metal bands.

I never understand this whole mentality of "I can say something terrible, apologize for it and claim ignorance of my comments, and everyone will forgive me." that seems to be popular with famous people. Not saying people don't say something without thinking, but even Gene Simmons should've had some idea that it was a stupid thing to say. We all say and do stuff that's stupid, ignorant or offensive from time to time even when in retrospect we realize we should have known better. It's really not fair to judge people based on the few times it happens. When a friend does it, they apologize, you say "ah, it's okay, forget about it" and go grab a beer, so why should it be any different with famous people?

It's just "f*** you and kill yourself" when talking about depressed people is a bit harder to believe that he wasn't thinking.

Never thought I'd see the day when Nikki Syxx was the voice of reason but fair play to the guy for saying what needed to be said!! That was my first thought as well...when a member of Motley Crue is chastising you, you've gone well beyond the boundaries of taste and reason.

Gene Simmons has always been one of the worst humans walking the planet. He's a no-talent hack in a band without talent that became popular due to their gimmick. The same band that has no issue with ripping off their fans on a consistent basis.
Basically, f*** Gene Simmons and anything he says.
