Can't use violence to solve problems every time. But that's what Hulk Hogan taught me!

I been called more racist names in so many different languages that you have to come up with some completely new to get a reaction from me. Just because someone calls you are racist name or say a racist remark doesn't give you free pass to assault someone. I understand the anger he felt but I can't sign off on that. I dunno. How do we know this isn't the first time this has happened? If Social Media Racist feels the freedom to make comments like that in the workplace, this couldn't have been the first time it has happened. If you get away with something, you continue to do it. If the idiot has a racist joke prepared for every situation, then he deserves a good hard slap. Del Rio just said in the video that there were two incidents between them. One 8 months ago and this one. Which is why he didn't even know his name. They didn't know each other and they never spoke to one another.

If the idiot has a racist joke prepared for every situation, then he deserves a good hard slap. I agree with this. Mentally stable people are conditioned to act based on their environment--that's Psych 101. In an environment where racism was specifically not allowed and people were therefore discouraged from acting that way, Barbierri would either not talk about it, or would've been open about it and gotten fired by this point. But that clearly isn't the case, because the guy has been hanging around for a while--he's not some unknown quantity. It's plausible that he feels that he can act that way and get away with it--because clearly, he has. So why does he think that's okay? The answer is pretty simple: WWE has a backstage environment where racism is allowed.

So it's legal to be racists in the USA? Wow. Yeah, you're allowed to have opinions as stupid and detrimental they are. What's wrong with that?

So it's legal to be racists in the USA? Wow. Of course it is. No matter how reprehensible or disgusting you might find something someone says, they are absolutely allowed to say it. So yeah, someone can make a racist comment about something, it doesn't make them fair game to be assaulted.. I'm not condoning racism in any way shape or form, but short of threatening someone verbally you have a right to say what you want in most circumstance. You will be, however, the one that has to live with others the consequences of those opinions.

See, I agree Del Rio deserved to be punished.
But the other guy should be as well. Getting assaulted for his racist behavior shouldn't earn him a clean slate.

I honestly don't think one person would disagree with that opinion. We don't know however, and we probably never will, if the other guy was punished. I'm taking a pretty good guess that he was in some way, but then again we probably will never know.

It is kind of hyppocritical though, i mean, when Ric Flair beat down Eric Bischoff backstage, Vince just gave him a stern warning, and what Flair did (going by flairs autobiography) was MUCH more than a slap.

Not where I am, if it's done at a workplace. But it's not illegal to have racist views, do is it? Being a racist and acting racist are two very different things. Over here, you can have whatever views you want, but acting on those views can be illegal depending on whether or not they infringe on the rights of others. Directing racist rhetoric at Del Rio is more than just prejudice. That's open discriminatory behavior and that is a hornet's nest of legal woes, if ADR decides to press the issue.

Not where I am, if it's done at a workplace. Illegal as in the government could fine and/or arrest you? Or is it that your employer could suspend or fire you? Because you can absolutely be fired for making a racist comment in the US.

So it's legal to be racists in the USA? Wow. As others have pointed out, it sure is. However what said racists tend to forget is that freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences. Thanks to twitter, facebook and the like, more and more of these insensitive, ignorant jaggoffs are being exposed publicly and their employers can and have fired them to keep their businesses from suffering. Wasn't it just last season on Big Brother these two blatant racists contestants left the show to find out they'd been fired while they were gone? And I distinctly remember reading about a girl that got fired from some coffee house she worked at for getting on twitter and saying Trayvon Martin deserved to die. It happens. But I doubt that would have been the case had del Rio decided to go the HR route instead of laying the smackdown on dude. Seems like the WWE exists in its own little bubble.

So it's legal to be racists in the USA? Wow. It's not where you are? In Scotland - it's illegal to make racial remarks to someone. I'm so thankful you aren't allowed to discuss politics on this board. The USA baffles me.
