Why can't some of us process that CM Punk just want to chill and enjoy retirement? If he says he's done, he's done and we should respect his decision. He could make small appearances ala Edge. I honestly don't think he wants to. He wants to distant himself from wrestling.

From what Heyman has said in interviews, wrestling is the furthest thing from his mind. He was burned out on it and I can't see him returning any time soon, even if it was completely under his own terms.

I have my reservations if after years of love, graft, blood, sweat and tears he's able to just turn it off. It isn't like an office job where you count down the days to retirement or something you get in solely for the money. He may be financially secure but there's a list as long as the combined length of all our arms of people who were equally financially secure but the industry kept drawing them back.
He's only been gone about 7 months, I'd not look upon this particular role of chickens and rule out the possibility of any of their eggs hatching just yet. It's like a rock band. They might take a year off, or two or several but in the end despite being multi-millionaires and never having to step into a studio again and often having vowed never to.....they always do in the end.
If he never goes back then good luck to him. I'd not bet against him returning though once he's had a lengthy rest and finds himself getting the itch again.

If Punk wanted to wrestle elsewhere at this point, he would already be doing so. Dude wants to chill at home ad have fun and stuff. I'm sure someday he'll wrestle a match somewhere whether it be WWE, New Japan, or wherever. I just don't understand why everyone is so worried about it until it happens. If you miss Punk so much there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of matches that he was in over the years that were filmed that you can watch. Available on the WWE Network for only.....$9.99

His issues seem, to me, to have been largely financial -- questions over how payouts were going to be handled with the switch from PPV to the Network, his problems, if there truly were any, with "part-timers" coming back to take spots from everybody roster guys were centered around those part-timers getting the big money for main eventing WM and other big shows. I don't see him wrestling for chump change in the indies when at his heart he's not that much different from VKM: all about the money.

Most of the appearances Edge has made post-injury was because he was still under contract as a talent so was obligated to do them despite having to retire from wrestling.

But it isn't just a "turn-it-off" thing for Punk. It seems like this was a gradual, but definite burning out. And unlike Jericho who just needed to recharge his passion for the industry and take a sabbatical, Punk's seems entirely dead. Maybe he'll make an appearance here and there. Maybe he'll eventually get a cushy office job in Stamford so he can be involved in the business without needing to wrestle. But I think he's done wrestling for good, even for "one more match" type things.

I also think that part of him must want to go out the "right way" by putting somebody over huge. I saw an interview with him not so long ago and he was asked who he'd want his last feud to be with and without hesitation he said Ambrose. If Ambrose keeps up his momentum a career on the line feud with Punk would potentially be a license to print money for all concerned.

Is he already gone from the company, or the WWE extended his contract?

You got a better chance of Shawn Michaels making his in ring return to wrestling before CM Punk returns back. If you looked at recent pictures of him, the man looks really relaxed since retiring and his wrinkles are disappearing. He might be back one day but don't hold your breath waiting for that moment. Let it go.

If Punk ever gets the bug back, I promise you you'll first hear about it as an appearance on the indies. Most likely it'll just start as a few appearances to put over talent and the promotion, but if the bug starts to bite harder.... I could see him working an actual program to put someone over. But I don't see him doing anything that locks him in a contract or makes it so it's not seen as a big deal when he's on the show....
To put it simply... if Punk wants to wrestle again, it'll be on the indies. If he wants a payday, he'll go back to WWE.

There was a discussion about CM Punk doing English commentary for NJPW along with Jim Ross but I can see Punk staying in the business long term before he is ready to come back to the WWE in the future.

Misreading the thread title gaveme a great idea. Yes, GM PUNK! Appointed by Vince or The Board to be a foil to the Authority. It would be great, and eventually lead to him getting back in the ring, because inevitable.

The boring answer is that nobody can really answer this aside from Punk. Nobody aside from him, AJ, and probably very few others really know what his mindset is so saying he's done wrestling for good or saying he'd gladly stay on the indies is just speculation. That said, would anywhere else be as fulfilling as WWE? Not even just money-wise, but AJ's there, Paul Heyman is there, Kofi's there. I don't personally think he's done with WWE, but who knows.

Is he already gone from the company, or the WWE extended his contract? His contract's done. He's in the WWE Alumni section and everything.

The "discussion" was JR talking out loud on his podcast about how he had that crazy idea and how cool that would be. Not much of a discussion.
