Doesn't matter how good a driver you are if someone hits you. Rates that high sounds like you've had tickets or something. I've only ever had 2 and 2004 was my last one

Insurance sucks. I pay $140 a month for my car and $80 a week gets taken out of my check for health insurance. When I go to the dentist 80% of it isn't even covered same with the eye doctor. If I ever have to go to a real doctor for something serious they better cover most of it..... most likely they won't then either.

I'm 28, and my insurance is about that expensive. Never had any accidents. It probably varies state to state and whatnot.

Have I ever mentioned that I have a desire to inflict bodily harm on the masterminds of Geico's advertising department? The General really pisses me off. When I first had to get my own auto insurance I called them because I see their commercial like every other commercial break so I called them.......... The representative told me they don't cover Florida. What pisses me off is that AllState is "not available in all states"........ THEN WHY IN THE f*** IS IT CALLED ALLSTATE?!?!?!?!?! IT SHOULD BE CALLED SOMESTATE! Sorry, rant over.

You know what's really useless? Inspection stickers. $10-$20 here every year or two just to see if all the shit you need to drive regularly works (arguably) for the 10 minutes it takes for the inspection. The thing too is as stupid as I swore this was, I was sure that since the car shops' cut from that fee is only about a dollar I must've been railing for no reason. Surely the rest of the money goes to things like funding public transportation or the upkeep of our roads and bridges, right? Nope, but hey...this is Louisiana. I don't know why I expected shit like that to make sense. And the LA roads are horrible. I can tell when I go from MS to LA on I-55.

Yes, police do still ask for insurance. A couple years ago, my mother almost got in big trouble for not having an insurance card in her car, although her insurance was valid.

Benefits of insurance: on New Year's Eve of 2013, I was at a friend's house for a get-together. My car was parked at the side of the road. The streets hadn't been plowed yet (I live in Canada, so snow). Someone hit my car, denting the bumper and trunk and breaking the tail light. It would have been around $500-$800 to fix it myself, but I paid $100 and my insurance covered the rest.
Consequences of not having insurance: many many many years ago (I want to say it was in '99 or 2000), I let my car insurance run out by accident (it expired on the Friday, I worked late Friday and in the afternoon on Saturday, it just kinda got forgot). I was driving home from 'nerd club' Saturday night and got pulled over. The cop pulled me over because my plate was expired by 1 day. The tow truck charged $600, but at least the officer was nice enough to let me bring the car home and not impound it. Sunday I walked across town to get my insurance renewed.

I don't know I pay around 120 a month for both my auto (full coverage) and renters insurance. The only thing is that in the past few years I am been vandalized twice, once by a bunch of kids in a truck egging cars, which just came over like 15 bucks over the deductible and one I am settling over a hit a run in a parking lot just needs just a bit of buffing and maybe a touch up which from all the places I checked come to just a little under 500, so i just might just eat that as well.

Insurance expects you to pay up every time, and are assholes about it. But as soon it's time for them to live up to their end of the deal, they not only try to avoid paying, but they throw a shit fit at you for asking.

Insurance expects you to pay up every time, and are assholes about it. But as soon it's time for them to live up to their end of the deal, they not only try to avoid paying, but they throw a shit fit at you for asking. Part of your contract with an insurance company is that you pay them for the coverage (which goes toward funding when you do have an issue) and when you set up your insurance you can choose your Deductible, which is a portion to show that yes, if it's bad enough you will use that check to fix the damage done to your car. They're not "Avoiding" anything, it's all in the contract you made with the insurance company. They will look for the least expensive means to repair your vehicle because they're trying to keep that money not only to keep their company afloat, but when a larger event happens (a hailstorm, for example) where they're paying out hundreds of thousands of dollars to people to get the hail dents fixed or a window replaced from being smashed, that they don't go bankrupt. If you think your insurance company is "Avoiding" something, you might want to consider lowering your deductible. It is possible to have a $0 deductible (one company has "Vanishing deductibles") but you might have a little more out-of-pocket expenses in the meantime.

I look at it this way: They're a for-profit company. If they actually paid out for stuff taking while not taking the cheapest route and without making it as inconvenient as possible, they wouldn't make a profit. Now, making a profit ain't the same as making enough money to function but y'know....
