I think it's ridiculous to assume to that Cena has no say in how he's booked. He's been on top far longer than Stone Cold and Rock who both held a lot of sway. When Edge was on Jericho's podcast, they said that beating the Nexus at Summerslam was Cena's idea.

Hogan at least sold being hurt by guys like Bundy and Earthquake before he beat them. Usually when he had to film a movie or something. If there was ever a time for Cena to do that it sure would be right now.

I no longer believe that Cena is completely innocent as he comes off in interviews. I don't really believe that Cena is so willing to step aside and all it takes is someone to take his spot. I know that a lot of my reasons are speculatory as hell but this happens way too often for me to believe now that Cena is just doing what he's told. Stuff like last night, that godawful "I'm tired of making mediocre look awesome" that made Miz look like a piece of shit for no good reason. Laughing in the face of all his challengers. I think some of it is the writing but I think Cena knows what he's doing too. On Jericho's podcast he and Edge discuss how hard Cena fought for that shitty Nexus elimination match ending too which also lends to my opinion that he's more selfish than he lets on. The only time he seemed to appear to be throwing a bone to someone on his own volition was Zack Ryder which I almost believe in and of itself was a self serving move to make him look like he gives a shit, and knowing that he has nothing to be afraid of in Zack Ryder. He just puts so much gusto into things like last night's buffoonery that he comes off as more than just a guy following orders. That's my stance as well. Nothing will ever convince me that John Cena isn't just as selfish, politicking, and insecure as guys like Triple H have been accused of being. Hell, if you look at how he's booked, Cena has basically been 1996 Shawn Michaels for nine years. And we all know how Michaels achieved such booking, and it wasn't by being a nice guy.

I think so, yes.
But in sayang that, I think one concedes that John Cena the wrestler/entertainer is..
A.) 100 % committed to the E, Loyal/Corporate/Obedient
B.) Not that talented.
He's alright in the ring through years of learning (while being the top guy), but he's not as bright or quite frankly intelligent as Austin, Rock, Jericho, Michaels, Punk, etc etc etc...who were saavy enough, and creative enough to guide and develop their characters despite looking.
So, he'a an Action Figure. But a hell of an Action Figure, which is why I blame looking.
Seriously, think back to 05 and think of all the missed opportunies, and cool things they could have done with Cena. There's ALOT. And imo, it outweighs the cool stuff they have done. Which to me, bar RVD at ONS, the fued with Michaels, and a declared program with Nexus, wasn't much. They capitalized on his character a bit better post-Pipebomb.
Vince is old school. And Cena's his golden chiseled chow. He'a gonna protect him in his dwindling insan mind. But we might see some cool stuff stuff if he sticks around for H's reign.

Sorry, but all the responsibility lies with Cena imo.
Either he stands up for what's right or continues to be the catalyst for all of these superhero feats.
Pretty sure he's responsible for a lot of the bad booking all his own, too.

If you want to complain about bad booking and writing, you gotta start from the top and that's John Cena.
It's a catch-22. You can't move John Cena from his spot at the top of the card because there is no viable replacement right now.
Why isn't there one? Because you've kept John Cena at the top of the card and didn't bother with creating replacements.
Now, obviously you've had Daniel Bryan and CM Punk booked as huge babyfaces and both are insanely popular, but neither was ever presented as Cena's peer. They were always on a lower tier.
The fact that Cena has influence and veto power and hasn't really used them is disappointing, but the blame still falls on the people who are writing and booking before it falls on Cena himself.
