On Friday, I graduated from high school, and the next day my family and I had a party in celebration of the event. Because I'm an awesome boyfriend, I invited my girlfriend to be part of the celebration. When she got to my house she handed me a card and a gift. When I opened the gift I found a surprise, her family bought all her friends who graduated the Dr. Seuss book "Oh, the Places You'll Go."
Now, like most recent grads would have, I laughed a little, but thanked her all the same. Just now, I opened the book, finished it, and it may be one of the deepest things I have ever read. Don't laugh, this book is a perfect picture of life in a way that anyone can understand. Has anyone else read this and thought the same?

I always thought Green Eggs and Ham was a metaphor for communism.

Oh yeah, my life is based on a simple quote:
"I will not eat green eggs and ham. I will not eat them in a box. I will not eat them with a fox. I will not eat them in a box with a fox."

Actually, yeah, Oh The Places You'll Go is a very deep and underrated book... not too deep to be over kids' heads but not too dumbed down that adults can't take something away from it.

Dr. Seuss was overrated. Semper Fi, Erik Majorwitz Though I often agree with you... BULLcrap! Seriously though. Perhaps probably because I have to hear about him every March for his birthday and appreciation week, since my wife is a teacher. She marked out big time for Super Bowl XL with the football version of the book. Semper Fi, Erik Majorwitz

AND when I was expecting, my folks got me the "baby" version to read to my belly. I think Seuss is overhyped, but underappreciated. They do the celebration in school, but until you're actually reading it to someone, you're missing a lot of it.

My entire high school graduating class received that book. Our class advisors had wrote a really touching farewell letter and attached it inside the book.
I don't care to remember high school that much, but that's one of the things that makes me smile when I think back to it.
Now, if they had only thrown in a copy of "The Lorax". That was my all time favorite!

I actually had that recited at my college graduation. I had never read it before that and was taken aback by how deep it was. Very inspirational.
