I saw that interview Gottfried did when it was new. Honestly, it made him come off as even more of a douche than he already was. Everything he said was true. People need to get over themselves. If you have that attitude, you're not worth my time.

I'm not trying to be funny at all, but with what happened to Jake Roberts as well, the last day really sucked for people with the initials "JR". Apologies to anyone offended by that comment. I'll see you that, and raise you "comedians and the WWE 2014 HOF are cursed."

You can be as offensive as you like. Just don't whine when people want to call you out on your BS.

Is it? No matter what people think about rap, it's certainly a form of music. Joan Rivers' recent "comedy" has equated to basically this... Me: Hi Bob Bob: Hi Hit Girl Me: Bob Bob: Yes? Me: You are a bastard, your wife is a lesbian, and your children will grow up to be drug addicts. *I walk away, leaving Bob bewildered* She performs regularly in front of audiences who laugh at her jokes and she's been doing this for decades so I would safely declare that she is a comedian and her material consists of jokes. A reporter literally asked Joan Rivers if there would ever be a gay president and if the person though Joan Rivers would give a serious answer the reporter has no idea who Joan Rivers is. Or is brilliant in knowing the answer would go viral. I'm not saying you have to like it or anyone does, I don't think the joke was particularly funny myself but she was put in a weird spot with that question anyways where the answer would either be hokey or offensive. People can be offended, no one needs to like her but it's bananas that we're going to be calling her a "comedian" with quotes from here on in when most actual comedians revere her. Outside of Don Rickles, it'd be pretty tough to find any other person who's spent more time in their life onstage doing stand-up comedy than Joan Rivers.

This I hate the stupid "you can't tell somebody what they can be offended-by" line. First of all I'm not doing that. You have every right to feel how you want and voice your opinions, and I have the right to voice my opinion on your opinion. Second, folks from all groups(whether it be one political correctness protects or not) can be whiny, clueless, emotional, knee-jerk, overly-defensive, irrational, prejudiced-themselves dipshits. There should be no free passes. Nobody should be above question and everybody should have the right to question.

If you look at the funniest comedians of all time, you're gonna find a whole bunch of them who did stuff that was pretty offensive. Eddie Murphy's Delirious and Raw are brutal, but they're funny. Joan Rivers comes from that old school of comedy where everyone and everything was fair game. And the fact that's she 1,000 years old and has managed to stay relevant says something about her, especially since her career was pretty much left for dead when Carson disowned her.

Well, shit.
Like I said earlier in the thread, I didn't care for her making some transphobic remarks, but there's no denying how influential she was in the world of comedy.

Added in a TMZ link and article to the first post.
People, please try and watch your attitudes in here. I am not saying you have to lie and talk about how great a person is just because they have passed (or were seriously ill) but some of what was posted earlier in here just is not acceptable.

It's never good when somebody goes under the knife and doesn't come back to tell the story. I know most surgeries go off without a hitch, but man, those exceptions are f***ing terrifying.
I've never had strong feelings for her one way or another, but I will say RIP regardless.

Welp, R.I.P. Another Comedic Legend Gone (I know this statement is controversial, but honestly to me the bitch has always been funny) Whether you find her funny or not, I think she's probably a legitimate comic legend. I'm not going to argue otherwise, even if I wasn't some big fan. I posted this earlier in the thread, but I want to again: To me, this is how I will always remember her, being genuinely starstruck by Mr. Rogers.

She was a pioneer for women in comedy, often controversial but never unfunny. RIP.
