Watching the Lesnar/Cena II match got me thinking; it really did feel like it "broke the rules" or even "broke reality and space time" to see John Cena, or any main eventer, really, brutalized that way. There's the trope of I'VE NEVER SEEN SO AND SO MANHANDLED THIS WAY, but outside of this one match, I can't remember the time a legit main event has felt like a squash. Guys always get a comeback spot or a hope spot or at least some offense or a late in the game sudden burst of fighting spirit.
John Cena hit literally two moves. Lesnar fully actually sat up and laughed off his finisher.
Which brought me to a funny thought: who, in the modern WWE, beating Cena CLEANLY, would not be considered an upset?
I'd say Randy Orton but at this point...Not so much.

Big Show, Mark Henry, just about anyone larger than Cena himself.
If they did a story where Show or Henry were training and getting pumped up for their match, being extremely motivated, it wouldn't be a shocker to have them beat Cena. Surprising, yes, but not shocking.

Anyone who has been pushed as a "main eventer" at some point, regardless of their current position on the card.

Bryan, Punk if he came back. Orton as you said, maybe Reigns in a year or so.

Jericho would be a huge upset at this point.

If it was just a standard match, with Big Show as he is now, yes I would be shocked. If they showed Big Show in the gym, or if he had a Heyman-like new manager, or even if he got brand new clothes, then you know Show would be getting serious, and a serious Big Show is about 75% as powerful as Lesnar in kayfabe.

The only one would have been Taker at Mania. Other than that, who's been built up stronger than Cena?
No one.
Anyone beating him clean apart from Lesnar at this point would be an upset.

Just Bryan, for current WWE and clean, it's just Bryan. I REALLY want to say Ambrose could win but I don't think they'd do it cleanly

Pretty much just Undertaker and Bryan.
Maybe Reigns or Ambrose in the near future with a good accompanying storyline or Rollins if you count a MitB cash-in as clean.

I'd say Bryan. Dude beat Batista, Orton and Triple H in one night. Pretty sure by their powers combined, they add up to more than Lesnar. Not by much though.

Storyline wise Bryan should be one but I imagine the vast majority of this board would be stunned if Cena lost to him clean in their inevitable rematch. I know I would be.

As bizarre as this might sound, I think I'd still consider Lesnar winning the rematch at Night of Champions an upset. I find it easier to believe that Cena will 'overcome the odds' than I do that Brock will beat him cleanly again and I think that's entirely because Monday's destruction of the Wyatts has put paid to any suggestion that Cena is supposed to look the underdog. While I should be looking at the match and thinking Cena has to pull something incredible out of the bag, instead I find myself looking at a situation that seems more the rubber match between two guys who are honours even.
I can't help but see Cena as the favourite. WWE have managed to make me doubt that Lesnar could do it again.

I have Lesnar and Undertaker as S-tier. Cena, Bryan, Rock, HHH and Punk at his peak are all A-tier, while Reigns, Orton, Sheamus, Wyatt, Batista and Big Show are in the B-tier- or what I'd call the "upset level".

Still, Big Show at that point was in one of his, "I'm heel so I'm main event dangerous!" runs as opposed to the face midcard squasher thing he's largely been doing.

Hogan....cause it's Hogan and that's enough of a justification for it to happen (at least to Hogan)
