I hope this leads to the debut of AJ Styles representing the Gay Community. *I have no idea what that was about but know there was a big thread about it in the TNA Section that I never read through* Styles did a radio interview and a caller asked him how he felt about having a large following in the gay community. Styles responded by saying "the GAY community?!" WWE has issued a public letter to Sam about appearing on Raw next week. www.wwe.com/inside/michael-sam-open-letter-26619993

This is completely bush league on WWE's part. It puts Sam in a rough position. If he wants to go back to the NFL, he'd be crazy to show up, because it would lend credence to the argument that having him on a team is going to cause distractions and create a sideshow atmosphere. If he doesn't show, there are some who are going to call him ungrateful or cowardly for not taking the opportunity for using the forum WWE is giving him.

Class and dignity? If you had shown class and dignity you would have reached out to him privately. Announcing to the world that you are inviting him and creating on-screen graphics showing him was the opposite.

I don't see the purpose of this. It has nothing to do with wrestling. The guy obviously won't show up and ruin any chance of playing in the NFL. Couldn't he sue since it's like he's being called out on National Television? Didn't Vince sue Turner when Bischoff called him out for a fight to show up on a WCW PPV? I don't think he can necessarily sue, but he can probably get a cease and desist to keep the company from referring to him if they consistently do it. Funny thing is, Sam already came under-fire when he tried to sign that Reality Show deal. I think appearing on WWE would be the worst of the two options since he would be validating the criticism that he was previously receiving.

Sam would have to be insane to show up on RAW next week. Why on Earth would WWE even advertise anything like this? If they want solid ratings, put out a great show with fun matches and sensible storylines. But I guess that's too much to ask for these days.

Hopefully they already got him to agree to appear before any of these invitations, else this is going to be really stupid.

If Sam has any sense, he'll stay far away I hope he does, because he would burn a lot of bridges. I don't get what WWE was thinking with this one.

Was that Dave Meltzer doing the AJ Styles interview?
What's his problem with wrestlers having gay fans?

I don't buy the line that he was cut because he was gay. There have been many players over the years in the NFL that have been gay, and come out publicly later. Do you think that their teammates didn't know about it? You'd have to be crazy antisocial for that to happen. The fact is, the man came to the Combine overweight and out of shape, and performed poorly. That speaks directly to someone's work ethic. He played well in the preseason...against 2nd and 3rd team offensive lines. It's actually quite common for 7th rounders not to make the 53 man roster, or the 10 man practice squad.
But more on-topic, if he comes, and that's a big "if", he's not going to say anything controversial, because there's always a chance another team can pick him up due to injuries. He won't risk that.

If Sam has any sense, he'll stay far away I hope he does, because he would burn a lot of bridges. I don't get what WWE was thinking with this one. Here's what was probably the process. "He's not going to accept it, anyway, but our name gets out and it costs us literally no money, and we can say we offered him a platform. If he accepts, then it's TV people will tune in for." And they wouldn't even really be wrong. I don't personally think Sam will or should do this, but I think we're expecting the worse in order to hopefully be proven wrong. How much has WWE exploited Darren being gay? Not at all. I don't think it's ever been outright mentioned on the air, and they have him do Be a Star campaign stuff because he's a very good choice for it. Even WWE is capable of classy actions sometimes.

Speaking of Young, WWE had a much better opportunity with him to make THEM look better than the NFL AND get good PR at the same time.
All they would do is have Darren Young do a PSA about the struggles of coming out and what LGBT people go through in the media and sport. Not so much as addressing what happened with Sam and the Rams (because that would be libellous) but the reaction from people. You can even throw in some stuff about Laverne Cox and such, to go into issues to do with non-straight issues.
It'd make WWE look more accepting, even if that isn't the case 99% of the time, it'd make Darren Young look more like an idol in the LGBT community and *shock horror* the WWE would somewhat be in touch with the 21st Century.
Instead, you have Young retweeting on Twitter people who are annoyed about him being shunned to the side for someone who isn't even a wrestler. I don't justify him taking it out on social media but I can't say I blame the guy. He does all the media appearances they ask him to do with barely any publicity and he's being snubbed.

I want Michael Sam to show up and be a complete non-character, just no personality whatsoever. Kind of like Shawn Merriman.

I have nothing against the man but the media has been so obsessed with this guy that I have become absolutely sick of everything related to him. Although most wished him luck and the best, The media circus and non stop attention and hype surrounding him by espn, PFT, nfl network, etc has been so over the top that most football fans had become sick of it as well. And now, in mcmahons and wwe's incredibly infinite wisdom, they decide to torture me and everyone who follows the nfl some more. And for what? To see them mentioned on espn for a few seconds? Sigh. Just comes across as so lame and pathetic.

gay-gay-gay-gay-gay-Gay World Order. We prefer the term 'Velvet Mafia' for our faction, the *WO stuff is too 90s mainstream. I'd book them in leather and go with Asses & Mates

Just saw a report that Sam is flying to Dallas to take a physical. And if he passes it, he'll be signed to the Cowboy's practice squad. Back to the drawing board, WWE.

Jerry will sign him. He's all about some publicity. If Sam helps that awful defense, so much the better.
