You know when actual effort was put into the PPV, based around one motif/design and it would be elaborated into everything in the PPV from logo, graphics, nameplates, video package promos/opening video, set and stage. The only time they really put effort in now for is Mania (yey for budget cuts -_- ) and even then there seems to be less enphesis on using the things listed to set them apart individually from the others.
The 2002 Royal Rumble water ripple effect, 2006 Rumble Colosseum/Greece (dat set and ppv advert!), 2005 Rumble West Side Story, 2004 Summerslam Olympic Summer games, 2004 Survivor Series (incredibly badass) wrestler cartoons made specifically for the match graphics/stage, 2009 Rumble based around the NYC rail line (like other PPVs held in MSG in early to late 2000's having a great focus and design based around NYC), The No Way Out padlock/cell variations from early to late 2000's, so many great Judgment Day one's like 2004s being a cemetery, 2007/2008 Armageddon stage looking like a location of a post apocalyptic movie.
I could go on and on, I would embed photos but there are so many I could put in spoilers that it it would be too much. I really appreciate how big of a spectacle they make out of Mania and how big they make everything for that still (thank god. Especially for outdoor sets), but I wish every other single PPV was given enough character/design/motif again instead of just bland variation on Raw set/a combination of old LED HD sets they had lying around the warehouse. Damn the budget cuts, open up that damn wallet Vince it makes your product look so much better!

Loved the Backlash swinging hooks/blades. Even when they dropped them from the stage design they were still part of the graphics.

He only modern PPV besides Mania that gets any attention stage-wise is TLC. Even then, they aren't ordering new, interesting stage pieces to add intrigue, they just throw a bunch of tables , ladders and chairs around and call it a day. At least it looks interesting in comparison to all the other PPVs.

I even miss the stage for In Your House being a house, and all the wrestlers coming out of the garage.

Nothing ever beats classic Wrestlemania, with the silver and gold chrome.

Couldn't agree more. Two that instantly come to mind are the King of the Ring 2001 electric chair entrance and SS '98 Deadly Games skull entrance.

So many good times diving off of that in SD Shut Your Mouth as well, to give that set even more well deserved credit. Man that thing was massive (in reality not game) wasn't it, epic epic stuff seeing that as a kid I think they used it at the 2002/final one as well

The Capital Punishment stage wasn't that bad

I liked Capitol Punishment's theme/set too, and I liked the first time they had the Money in the Bank PPV setup. WWE don't use the colour green often enough! The Money in the Bank set has pretty much stayed the same since 2010 with the overflow of ladders on the set, the large ladder scaffolding and the money trucks but I like it.

It's ever since they went HD that they stopped with the unique setups. All of their TV shows look the same.
The Backlash blades were awesome as was the Armageddon 2000 set with the junkyard of scrapped cars.

I even miss the stage for In Your House being a house, and all the wrestlers coming out of the garage. It was perfect, it was like Diesel was my dad and he just got done changing the oil in his pickup truck.

BIG SCREEN infuriates me so much it's insane. WWE just gave up with set designs and it pains me.

It makes the moments appear far more epic too. Jeff climbing to the top of the Armageddon stage after he won was very memorable. It's far easier to remember these moments with great stages than these days considering everything's so bland.

I think I actually miss distinctive sets even more than I miss the product being a bit less predictable, or Mick Foley being an active wrestler. I wouldn't care if each PPV show had the same set every year, but used once a year - I just want the shows to actually feel like something else once in a while.

I used to get really excited for episodes of Sunday Night Heat before a PPV as a kid just so I could see what the stage looked like.
