There are filmmakers who prey on the idea of making a film and sending out lawsuits to individuals who download the films. Porn has been doing this as an extra form of income because most people don't want "Big Booty Mamas 8" on their credit card records. The lawsuit is seen as part of a courtroom based strategy in which defendants are asked to settle or risk being named in a public lawsuit forever attaching their name to the viewing of said scandal.
In fact a film called "Nude Nuns with Big Guns" implemented this strategy, targeting 5,865 IP addresses, but ended up having to dismiss their case...although that was mainly because the film rights were in question so those suing might have not had the right to actually sue.

On the flipside, just because someone works hard on something doesn't mean that they automatically deserve to be rewarded if what they worked hard on still isn't considered to be good (and yes, I recognize that 'good' is a highly subjective term). Students tell teachers all the the time that they deserve an A on an assignment simply because they tried hard. I don't doubt that the piracy of the film hurt its box office to some degree (and how would one go about proving damages when that assumes that every person out of 10 million people had the film not been pirated would have actually paid for it in theatres overdetermines any notion of the motive of piracy), but this sounds more like the people behind the film trying to wring out every dollar they can on a flick that performed lower than expected. The brutality of the corporate capitalist logic in which we find ourselves today is that if you want to compete with free (say, piracy), you have to make a better product for which people are willing to pay. Shifting more and more financial risk to consumers only serves to alienate them further. You're kind of missing the point that if someone is selling their art for a set price, and you take it without their consent, it's stealing. Whether you liked it or not doesn't matter. Besides, we live in a world where if people can get something for free, they'll take it. Ain't that the truth. I do a 1000x more downloads of my work when I do the occasional free days through Amazon than when it's just available for standard Kindle cost. On the one hand, it's cool to get that many more potential readers to take a look; but on the other it sure would be nice for em to be there when it is a few bucks. Haha.

But, in seriousness, why go through all that trouble in lawsuits over loss of revenue? I mean, if you're just gonna do dumb explosions, stick to dumb explosions instead of trying to develop a story. I dont think they intend to file lawsuits. Basically, they'll send out a "Give us x amount of money or we're suing" letter and hope that the fear of going to court will persuade these individuals to send a check. My problem with this is that this isn't how you combat piracy. If this guy was legit in wanting to stop it, he'd go after the hosting sites.

It doesn't say sueing. It says pursue. He is The Haig. P.S. The Asylum now has an all women mockbuster of this called Mercenaries. Just putting that out there.

f*** the producer should sue everyone that has ever comitted piracy and has watched a bootleg copy. The guy who uploaded "Wrestling Road Diares 1 and 2" to YouTube, me for watching them there, Colt Cabana and CM Punk for illegaly downloading Randy Savage matches, putting them in a DVD and selling them. Lol, in all seriousness I could never take Colt seriously when in the AOW, he begs his fans to not pirate his dvds when he did the same thing, he also says "steal from the big guy not the Little guy."

It's pretty shitty to go after those who downloaded it rather than those who actually hosted the thing. But that's the film and music industry's model. Look, is piracy totally clean and spotless? Of course not. But these rich assholes that prey on people for downloading their goofy movie that would've bombed regardless are just as sleazy (I'd say more so).

Eh, it's fair game however they wanna play it. I agree with the spirit of what you're saying, I'm not perfect, I'll download some things from time to time in rare cases of really wanting something I can't afford at the time and recognize it as a calculated risk everytime. In the end you are taking something for free that isn't. To say the burden should fall on the more fortunate is the same standard as thinking our privacy is more important than celebrities because they're famous and asking for it.

Did you have a bad personal experience with Colt? I ask because you seem to go after him a lot. On this particular instance I just mocked him because I thought he comes across like a hypocrite when telling the fans not to pirate his stuff, when he himself sold bootlegged Macho Man DVDs, but you're right I talk major shit about him. I used to worship the guy, following him from ROH, Matt Classic in WSX, getting really sad when I read on his MySpace blog that he lost a toe on a car accident (a friend of his posted it as a prank). When he was moving up the card on OVW when he feuded with Shawn Spears I was elated, he also was getting great reviews on FCW, it was a matter of time for him to debut on TV, even though he was a jobber I still had hopes for him because they gave him an internet show, and his blogs on the wwe site where getting more traffic than anyone else. When he got fired after overselling the samoan spike I got really bummed out.
When he returned to ROH, I thought that he was gonna be at the top again, but he only played a supporting role to the Steen and Generico feud, where you barely noticed him, a short time later he was gone.
I've heard about 90% of his aow podcast episodes, I've memorized a lot of lines ("Punch him in the balls!" "You need to decide if you want to play football or be the next Dusty Rhodes!" "I live with a tranny under a bridge" "We're Liquid" "Hey it's Dylan coming down the aisle" "Inoki wanted Kikutaro to fight Alistair Overeem in a shoot").
I think I started to sour on Colt after his career just became stagnant, like he didn't returned to the WWE, as it was teased since the pipebomb, he hasn't appear in any major indy, this last year except maybe 1 or 2, most of the AOW's episodes have sucked.
Scott Colton might be a nice guy or a dickhead, I frankly don't care, I just care about the character he plays Colt Cabana, whom I think has jumped the shark. As a huge fan of him, I'm dissapointed quite frankly.

To a degree, I can understand disappointment when an artist or performer falls short of your expectations, but the vitriol you've had for Colt on this board as of late seems like you're taking it really personally.

Again I agree and apologize, but it's not falling short of expectations is that in my opinion he's in a downward spiral, the only thing I can compare it to is if you're a Cowboys fan and know that Romo is never gonna improve (today he barely won) and Jerry Jones is still gonna make bad decisions. Also I've been thinking about a promo Triple H cut explaining why he turned on Ric Flair, he said that he idolized Flair, and loved that he returned to the top, but after Carlito spit Apple on his face, Triple H's heart broke and he saw Ric as a broken man. Again it's my opinion, nothing personal agaisnt the man, just his current state that has me desperate and angry.
