I don't see a problem with having an opinion on someone, even though you don't know them personally. That being said, Phil Brooks doesn't seem nearly as bad of a person as people make him out to be, so I see no reason for me to dislike him. It's kinda hard to have an opinion of someone you don't know personally though. It's like seeing someone on the street that you've never met before, walking up to them, and saying "I don't like you because you appear to be a dick". To be fair, I think people have a better feel on someone like Punk, who they've seen regularly on TV and in the media, than they would some random stranger on the street. To use a bit of an extreme example, if you see some serial killer on the news, would you think you'd need to meet him in person before you're able to see whether or not you'd like him?

I don't know Phil Brooks at all, how can I say I don't like him?
CM Punk is awesome-sauce though.

Phil Brooks as a person, nothing against him, his apology after he called a fan gay was incredibly contrite and how an apology should be, he genuinely seemed to regret having said it and called out those defending him saying that he shouldn't be defended. If more people called out for offensive actions acted like him, the world might be a nicer place. He seemed to be willing to do a lot to put over an angle, from involving his personal life to agreeing with Jericho's idea to give him a tattoo as part of the angle (although that was vetoed from above). And in general, he gave fans a lot of good memories, and I'm glad that he got out when he felt was best for him, and that he seems to be enjoying life a lot more now.
All that said, CM Punk as a character? Total dick. Broke up the Nexus by treating it as an extension of his previous cults, trying to destroy the bond that Slabriel had. Then pretended to be anti-corporate and speaking for the people, but the moment that there came a time when the locker room was banding together to create change, he comes out as a scab and screws his fellow wrestlers over, buddying up to the corrupt executive. But still pretends to be a rebel so he can maintain his 'cult of personality'.

I like CM Punk the wrestler, but hate Phil Brooks the person. *Sees your username is Dolph Ziggler* I'm sorry but you need to move on. It sucks that you and AJ couldn't work it out and you were the last guy she dated before she married her true love. I know it still stings but you need to move on man.

Even still, that doesn't exactly entitle someone to say they "know" the real Phil Brooks. They don't know how he thinks, how he lives, or anything like that to really say they hate him just from the media or seeing him (in character or out) on TV when he's supposed to act a certain way. I agree with the serial killer example, though.

Having watched first hand what famous people go through when dealing with fans I kinda don't blame Punk for a lot of the stories we've heard (if they are true). There comes a point when you just want time to yourself yet still want to go out in public. You should be allowed to do that.
And this BS about 'Well, he chose to be a wrestler...'? So? He's a wrestler at work. He's not a wrestler in public. He never signed any agreement that said he has to make himself available 24/7 to the world. He owes the audience his best at an event not outside of one.

I think I'd rather know:
How do you feel about the Rock?
How do you feel about Dwayne Johnson?
How do you feel about Rocky Maivia, the person?

The Rock: One of the most charismatic talents to ever grace a WWE ring. Dwayne Johnson: A badass action star who also seems like a pretty nice guy. Rocky Maivia: Forgettable.

I'm a big fan of CM Punk but dislike much of the character that made its way on-screen and in particular his persona on Twitter. It doesn't bother me, his matches and the majority of his promos always entertained me. I'm more than capable of separating character and real person. And frankly, I barely care about the lives of people I actually know, never mind strangers on TV
