I can safely say this show has the absolute best incarnation of Penguin in any Batman lore. Tonight really solidified the potential he has. If the show hopefully goes long enough, I can see a lot more amazingly devious moments from him. It also looks like they're building up Gordon owing him a favor for his being an informant. If this is building towards the season finale later, things will get real exciting.

Glad there was no Montoya this episode but Barbara isn't really doing much for me either. She's just kind of there and again hard to feel sympathy for her.

I've tried watching it a couple of times and just can't get into it. There's just way too many characters crammed in there, and the way they introduce em it's like "See? See? That's Riddler, or Catwoman, or whoever."

I liked tonight's episode and I think they did a really good job of establishing the stakes between the different families without having a full-blown mafia war.
I was afraid that's what they were setting up for this episode, but they scaled back, which is great because it's too soon for a gang war.

Penguin pulling the strings and setting up a mob war is tremendous.

Also I'm going to be honest, I'm not on bored with Fish Mooney. I get what she's supposed to be, yet another crime boss trying to gain influence, but she just doesn't do anything for me as a character. I guess you could argue that we're supposed to forget about her while Penguin takes the spotlight, but there's like nothing to go on for what she's doing.

So can somebody explain why a Mob Boss would want a toxic waste dump? Dude, in a comic book world... a toxic waste dump is, essentially, a supervillain factory!

I thought that was the best episode, so far. Loved all the Cobblepot scenes. And I think Hem McKenzie and Donal Louge have pretty good chemistry. And Robin Lord Taylor looks like a mash-up of Daniel Radcliffe and Jonah Hill:

Anyone else notice how every major female character in this show is some degree of lesbian? Can't wait for the unresolved sexual tension between Bullock and Gordon.

Really enjoying the show so far. Cobblepot is tremendous, but I'm really enjoying Bullock. Donal Logue has taken a fair stock dirty cop character and made him likeable; I'm looking forward to the inevitable point where he's made to choose between his mob ties and Gordon and actually has second thoughts about being crooked.

The reason why its hard to care about Fish Mooney is because she hasn't done much as a mob boss other than try to have Bullock and Gordon axed. Which isn't much because they could have easily just had Falcone be the one to do it. Considering she's not from the comics, its become obvious that she's just there for Penguin to kill off to solidify his rise in the criminal underworld. All she has done so far is act like a talent show judge. Yeah, there's some buildup going on with her hiring that girl as an assassin near the end. But what exactly are goals and ambition other than killing Falcone?

Various thoughts from the latest episode: On this week's assassin: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Called "This week's assassin because...come on. You know with the lack of super villains, this show is going to be assassin packed and jacked.
I seriously thought that Mr. Gladwell was going to be "The Tallyman" at first. Kind of glad he wasn't considering he didn't make it out of the episode.
Doubling down on "seriously," I seriously believe that he existed as a seemingly prequel explanation for the eventual weapon that ends up on the end of Penguin's umbrella. I mean...a daggone spike from a long cylinder device? Tip of an umbrella, man.
Same to see him blown away on such a lame line "A professional always finishes the job!" Nice way to accidentally devalue yourself out the door.
On the Penguin: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Who the smurf takes food from The Penguin? I don't care how long you've been hiding in an apartment. WHO THE SMURF TAKES A BITE OF FOOD PROVIDED BY A GUY ACTING LIKE HIM?!
I really enjoy how he's essentially guiding the gangs into a war while acting all prophetic about it. Of course you know a war is coming. You're setting down all the bombs, man. Also, great tip to Gordon "Hey, that assassin dude is going to kill again." "Who?" "Dunno." "When" "Tonight." "When tonight?" "Dunno."
The actor can really work his facial quirks. I'll give him that.
On Gordon related plotsense: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Plotsense means "Plot Nonsense." Let's make this word happen!...Or not.
Gordon has the ability to warp from one spot to another which was weird.
I really feel like the whole Gordon/Barbara/Montoya thing has no steam beyond adding a 'risque' lesbian angle into the show. I mean, if you would swap Montoya with her male partner, the stuff would still be just as flat.
The CLM thing was...kind of weak. Hope they pull that off better next time.
On Bullock: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} The man did not punch nearly enough things this episode.
Him going to Fish constantly is weird. Is this some sort of twisted Huggy Bear situation?
On Fish: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Fish is essentially the Alberto Del Rio of Gotham. She knows what she's doing. We know what she's doing. There is a talent and manipulation to it...but there is no care. Nothing really 'pops' despite her constantly being pushed on screen over and over. And over. She's supposed to be a Big Deal, Fairly Quickly with this whole "I'll kill Falcone and achieve my destiny of running things" plotline that seemingly exists for no reason other than for Penguin to kill her and take her spot.
Wait...does that make Penguin a slightly more successful Ricardo?
I'm still enjoying the show and hope that they can keep building things with this mainly grounded in reality, but occasionally allowing crazy in setup. We need more Balloonmen. {Spoiler}{Spoiler} No, seriously. WHY WOULD YOU TAKE FOOD FROM HIM?!

After seeing a few episodes I like it, but I can't help to think that the writers or producers are a tad impatient and I feel like they'll do a time skip eventually. Age up the main characters, recast older actors in place of the kids, and try to get to Batman sooner. At least a teenage version fighting in sweatpants and getting his ass beat most of the time, Kick-Ass style.

BTW, the actress playing Barbara is going to have to give Courtney Thorne-Smith her DNA back at some point.

Discovered I've had a Hulu account the past couple of months without knowing about it, so on a whim watched through the four episodes so far. I'm kind of torn, enjoying it but I have a lot of issues with the show. Figure I might as well keep watching it for now, though.

I say they just keep finding ways to replicate the nonsense of The Balloonman and continue to play it completely straight as people in a bar watch a priest float up in the air to his eventual doom while shouting for help.
