Y'know I still haven't watched it, seen a lot of Kubrick films but not that one.

The story behind the movie is far more entertaining than the movie itself.

I actually don't mind the movie. It doesn't even compare to Kubrick's early work, but I'd say it still has engaging elements to it.
I thought the ending was absolutely terrible though. In fact I had completely tried to block it out until I started writing this post, so I almost feel like retracting what I just said.
So really, turn the movie off once Cruise corners that dude in the billiards room.

Pretty much, yeah. Probably my least favorite film of his, and pretty damn dull for a movie with so many half naked or naked people.

Really stupid question. Of course it isn't 'artsy porn.' It's insulting to even compare it to porn. It's a great movie, though not one of Kubrick's very best.
I'm assuming the NC's answer to his own question will be, "No! Of course it's not that!"

I thought the film was great. I always thought the film would of been better if he went with the original idea of an older couple with Harrison Ford as the lead. The movie is very uneasy and unsettling, just imagine how much more unsettling it would be to see a confused 57 year old man in a masked orgy.

You know,I watched it early on because I was a teenager and wanted to see naked woman, but didn't really understand what the f*** I was watching and just thought it was whatever.Years later I rewatched it,still confused at times, but it wasn't as bad as I remember it being. It kept my interest.I liked it.

I thought this week's movie was maximum overdrive? It's review one week, then commentary next, then review. Last week's Avatar video was technically the review

So another pretentious editorial about a pretentious film that nobodies given a damn about in years? ::sigh:: I really wish Doug would just focus on being entertaining on stop trying to have a "message" in everything he does nowadays.

It's one of the best movies I've ever seen, honestly. People seem to go into it expecting it to be this erotic, soft-core porno movie (because all they know is that there's an orgy) when it's really an unsettling movie about loneliness (and a whole lot more, especially if you don't believe Sydney Pollack's character). I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it but when I watched it last year after avoiding it for years, I was so engrossed through the whole thing and it really stuck with me. Personally, I like it a lot more than A Clockwork Orange and (the second half of) Full Metal Jacket.
The guy in the balcony nodding at Tom Cruise's character. I get chills even thinking about it.
