I think it's whilst he was still playing for Metallica. Actually Metallica was the original version of Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band (they kicked Hulk and Jimmy Hart out because they were intimidated by them, brother). This was actually an attempt to get a project with Robert Fripp, Neil Young and the ghost of John Bonham off the ground, but nothing ever came of it except this EP and a very brief tour, man, before the Hulkamaniacs called me to go to wrestling. The rest is history.

But he went into the back and schmoozed his way to a squash match in his favor.

I think it's whilst he was still playing for Metallica. That's what caused Hogan to have to leave the band. In a strange twist of events, the exact same thing happened to Jason Newsted nearly 20 years later. Man, Hetfield is a dick when it comes to harmless side projects.

Is this before he joined Metallica? I think it was during his time on Metallica, the period he wrestled 500 days in a year and out partied John Belushi...
