Freakin' Pentagon Jr.'s master is going to be Konnan isn't it? Funny, my first idea was it's Vampiro, wanting to be freed from his current ordinary life... Maybe too borderline^^

I was wondering when they would do anything with Killshot/Cuerno.

Was glad to see Havoc get in some nice offense on Muertes, I feared it would be a glorified squash. The vignette with the trios champs was good too. I liked The Mack getting the big surprise upset over Cage. Cage had been a monster to this point, Puma couldn't hang with him straight-up. Adds real fun to the matches when underdogs can sneak legit wins out here and there. Still not feeling the Disciples of Death. Muertes is a great monster heel but the disciples just feel like random minions so far. But with Ivellise out maybe they do need to put the belts on somebody else a while. The main event was solid. Jack Evans continues to show how he has developed in AAA. Mundo got a needed W, some momentum back before he puts Patron over at Ultimate Lucha. The Blue Demon turn and feud with Texano felt rather forced. I agree with what you say about Disciples of Death. I kind of wish they had brought up a group called La Secta from AAA to be his minions. All three of them are pretty solid in the ring but I have a feeling they haven't been brought up because they are mostly mid to lower card talent and I doubt any of them know English.

Given that Pentagon, Sexy Star and others have done all their promos in Spanish with subtitles, I doubt knowing English is a prerequisite to work in LU.

It's time for Good News Bad News Good News: According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, They have been renewed for a second season on El Rey Bad News: The feeling is that the current combination of running on El Rey and Unimas will only result in further financial losses. Producer Eric Van Wagenen was on Steve Austin’s podcast and stated that they could do a second season on El Rey, but that they need new funding. The thing that would change the game for the promotion would be a deal with Televisa in Mexico. The rights fees for the deal would greatly help the promotion, and a deal would have given them more exposure than any promotion in Mexico. The two sides have been in talks and they were reportedly close to a deal last month, but nothing has been signed. 411mania.com/wrestling/new-update-on-season-two-of-lucha-underground/

These companies really need to stop depending on rights fees. These rights fees are going to be gone in ten years or less anyway with so many people cutting cable. Companies like lucha underground really need to scale back and figure out a way to get funded directly by fan who support them. Sure it won't be as much money but this artificial price that entertainment has been shoveling in for years is about to collapse.

The problem in this case is LU is not a wrestling company, they are a TV show. They are a TV show centered around an outlaw wrestling promotion run by a guy that might just be the devil or at least his brother. They exist as programming for El Rey and whomever else wants to license it so tv rights fees are their lifeline.

Isn't the whole idea of having wrestling on your network that it's cheap programming? They're not spending on pyro or elaborate sets like WWE, and the low-budget feel is part of the charm, so where does their money otherwise go?

Fly ins and apparently they spent a lot building the Temple. Plus shooting all the non-wrestling bits twice (once in English, once in Spanish) cannot be cheap.

I know there was talk that the location would be moved somewhere cheaper, so that could solve that problem. As for flying people in, maybe they can talk AAA into paying for that? They may have to shoot all the vignettes at once, and then do the TV tapings with all wrestling and live promos, rather than spread the backstage stuff over the course of these.

Freakin' Pentagon Jr.'s master is going to be Konnan isn't it? Funny, my first idea was it's Vampiro, wanting to be freed from his current ordinary life... Maybe too borderline^^ I was thinking something similar. Vampiro has a multiple personality thing going on and his other personality is Pentagon's master. It would explain that backstage segment they did a couple of weeks back where Vamp was hearing voices in his head.

They retrofitted the entire warehouse to look all stylized. It doesn't completely show on TV because of how dark it is but they put a lot of detail in basically making it look like a set in a Robert Rodriguez movie. I don't think shooting segments really cost all that much unless it just takes all day and they have a big crew shooting it. One of the biggest things they need is to figure out a way to get the word out and get the show online in a legal way. And when I mean get it online I'm talking about hulu or netflix or someone else established. Hell them just putting it on youtube would actually be good enough because it isn't like any online outlets pay all that much anyway. Saying that though the best way for them to get talked about and get exposure is to be online. Getting on one of the big Spanish channels in the US would be good too but those rights fees won't last ten more years.

Everyone from The Observer to guys with random named blogs have nothing but praise for Lucha Underground. The problem is that El Rey is a tiny network that very few get, even after it was announced they would be on DISH after just being on DirectTV.

I kind of get the impression that El Rey and even those producing LU are a bit surprised by how successful it's been.
