I voted F-Zero. Whichever one was on N64 was AWESOME.

I'm new to the racing games even though I've had seemingly every system since Nintendo. I loved Midnight Club 3, probably my favorite, but I got hooked on Need for Speed Underground 2 just because I could trick out my real life car and race ricey drivers.

Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 2 was EASILY the best single-seater/F1 game. It came out, not even 100% completed, in 1994, and it took nearly six years to another game to actually dethrone, for good, GP2 from his throne. To be exact, GP2 came out in 1996. It was based on the 1994 season, though. If it was an option, would have voted for Grand Prix Legends which is basically a simulation of the 1967 Formula One season (albeit with a few differences, such as the French GP venue and two teams' names being changed), made by Papyrus who are best known for their NASCAR series. GPL never sold very much because of its difficulty and extreme realism (try surviving the old Nürburgring Nordschleife with all of the realism options turned on, it's not fun), which is a shame because I find it to be even better than Grand Prix 2 and pretty much all "modern" F1 sims. I can't believe I messed up the release year... And what am I gonna do when Alzheimer runs wild on me??!! Agreed about GP Legends. The game was AWESOME, but way too hard and with an insanely steep learning curve to appeal the masses. Nearly impossible to play without a steering wheel... and it was very hard with a wheel as well. A real shame.

Road Rash What's better than racing a motorcycle and hitting the other racers with blunt objects? And running over sweet, old ladies with zimmer frames.

I like all the options, and each are good in their own rights, but honestly, what can be better than pissing your friends off by hitting them with a blue or red shell just before they cross the finish line, and you win the race? Agreed.... that and shrinking them and running them over on the final lap. Or just shrinking them and running them over period.

Super Mario Kart (SNES) is the greatest racing game ever, although Gran Turismo (PS1) was a brilliant "serious" racing game.

Or.......grab Star Man or Bullet Bill and bust through everyone in your path.......let's face it......it is thanks to the Mario Kart games that I know what most of the things in the Mario world are called!

I voted F-Zero. Whichever one was on N64 was AWESOME. F-Zero X. And that one was awsome. F-Zero GX for the GC was too fast. It was incredibly difficult, even on regular settings. And I can't believe i forgot Rock & Roll Racing. That game ROCKS!

Where's Road Rash? Nothing was so simply fun as bashing a fellow biker in the face with a chain.

WHERE'S THE SHUTOKOU BATTLE LOVE?! ARRGH! RAJAAAAHHHH!
Seriously though. Tokyo Xtreme Racer (Shutokou Battle in the cool countries) is a great game, TXR: Zero being my favorite. Sooo many Japanese cars, from the most popular to the most obscure. It's the most "realistic" street racing experience you can get, really.
From the list, it's a tough call between Sega Rally, Road Rash, NFSU (only liked 2), Super Off Road, and Burnout...3? (I liked em all. Burnout 1 rocked my socks back in the day, Burnout Revenge does so now).
Gotta go with the crazy ass carnage of Burnout 3 though..
Ooh, Daytona USA was on the list too. Great one as well.

By the way, props for this poll, you managed to cram in a lot of my favorite games (though you forgot my most favorite, but that's quite forgivable, as the game has like, a tiny cult following), I spent countless hours playing Super Off Road and Road Rash way back in the day, and enjoy a lot of the games you had as options.
Racing is actually one of my favorite genres of games. One of the few I'm actually VERY good at.
I'd also like to say the following:
Need for Speed Underground for Gameboy Advance is ridiculously impressive, the sequel is nice as well. I liked NFSU1 on GBA better than I liked it on the big consoles.
I'd also like to give a nod to some arcade games, like Konami's Racing Jam, Initial D, and Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune (as well as the original, just Wangan Midnight). All awesome.

I went for TRULY old school and picked Pole Position.
I would have loved to have seen TURBO on there though.

This poll only needs one thing. An "Other option". FlatOut. A game, which had a solid actual race, and bonus minigames where you HURL THE EFFING DRIVER OUT OF THE WINDOW. Fun!
