The Boston Globe reports Patriots RE Chandler Jones has a hip injury that will sideline him "about" one month. That kinda sucks. As a Broncos fan, and after last year, I want them to really play against every teams best. Get them ready for the postseason instead of just floating in like last year. Just a case of a team they might run into again down the road (Denver @ NE next sunday) and would be nice to see how they stand up against the best. It's why I'm enjoying this year, not cause of the record, but how they are going against alot of the NFL's best and going toe to toe with the physical teams, unlike last year.

So the Patriots are without their best linebacker and best running back for the season, and they're also missing their best pass rusher for the next month, when they play Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, and Detroit.
These critical injuries are starting to pile up to the point where they might not be able to overcome them. It reminds me of the 2008 season, when, even after losing Tom Brady in week one, they still had a legitimate shot at winning the AFC East, but the injuries to key contributors including Adalius Thomas, Rodney Harrison, and Laurence Maroney became too much to handle.
The Patriots are 5-2. If they can get through their next six games (Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Detroit, Green Bay, San Diego) at 8-5, they should be able to hang on to the division, as their final three games are against the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills.

If the Pats didn't play in such a shit division they'd be in trouble, but the AFC East is some dumb old bullshit.

That said, I fully believe every team in the AFC East could win the NFC South Even the Bills? I'd say so. Oh, they would be a 4th seed and lose in the wildcard round, but they look better to me than any of the NFC South teams.

ANYONE, EVEN THE BILLS, CAN WIN THE NFC SOUTH! Ok I'll bite on the Bills, but no way in hell the Jets would win any division this year. They have one win, against a winless Oakland... yeesh...

True but all those losses: Green Bay Chicago Detroit San Diego Denver New England Only two of those games they lost by more than 10 and that was to, imo, the best 2 teams in the AFC. I honestly think they got the talent to win the NFC South. To run that gauntlet and still be 9th in total D. Yeah that defense is good.

Outside of the Pats game, Buffalo's defense has done a decent job.
This isn't the sieve of 2012- Wannstedt ain't around anymore thankfully.

Just saw that Chargers RBs Ryan Matthews and Donald Brown are both out tomorrow, along with starting CB Brandon Flowers and the other starting CB Jason Verrett being called a longshot at playing.
I'd say this has potential for typical Thursday night blowout now but these 2 always play close tough games.

This stretch isn't so much about the AFC East as it is about 'Will they get the first-round bye? Or will they have to do it THE HARD WAY Stone Cold style and play on Wild Card Weekend?' History says it's crucial- each of New England's SB runs in this era all came with a 1 or 2 seed.

Jets are abysmal and the Dolphins are maddeningly inconsistent. There might be a good team somewhere within the Dolphins (Well, Tannehill is not the answer), but you just don't know what you're going to get from them. As for the Bills, we have one of the best defences in the league and they should always be able to keep us in games. That said, I have no idea what's going to happen now with no Spiller and no Jackson. Anthony Dixon isn't going to strike fear into anybody and I don't think our receiving corps is good enough to shoulder an increased load. For these reasons, I think the Pats are safe.
