Well, I think an MRI would show if it was anything REALLY serious like liver cancer, wouldn't it? I don't know, I'm just trying to be optimistic and send some good vibes your way. Well, that's the trouble - if it's not cancer, what could be causing jaundice, anemia and a low grade fever? We know some things it's not, but that makes it worse. What could it be? It could be any number of things. The problem may affect the liver without being located in the liver. The human body is complex that way. For example, FGF23 is an enzyme critical for kidney regulation of phosphate. Too much or too little and your kidneys don't function properly. Where is this enzyme produced? The answer is not "in the kidneys". It also isn't "in the butt, Bob". The answer is that the enzyme is made in your bones, so sometimes people's kidney don't work right because there is something wrong with their bones. Hopefully, the endocrine levels in the biopsy tissue will explain what is going on.

That's not saying it couldn't be cancer, but when people hear the word, they tend to picture the worst. Just know that there's many non-cancerous reasons to have that group of symptoms. You and her are in my thoughts.

Well, the biopsy was completed yesterday. Her fever and anemia have reduced enough where they felt comfortable releasing her. Her diet is pretty restrictive now and she's slated to see a doctor about the results in three days.
Feeling like she has dodged a bullet here. She may not be "fine", but she's home and that alone gets a huge sigh of relief from me.
