Matt Williams and Buck Showalter win the manager of the year awards. Williams makes it 2 in 3 years for the Nationals after Davey Johnson won it in 2012. Showalter wins his 3rd with his 3rd team picking up the award every ten years:94 Yankees, 04 Rangers and 14 with the Orioles.

The Red Sox need a third basemen. Rumors are swirling that they could make a play on Pablo Sandoval, Hanley Ramirez, or Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas in free agency or that they might swing a trade for Troy Tulowitzki and move Xander Bogaerts to third.
However, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the rumored deals that Sandoval could fetch are in the range of five years and $90 million to six years and $110 million. Heyman also purports that Hanley could land a deal in the area of five years and $90 million to six years and $122 million.
At those prices, I hope the Red Sox stay away. I like both players, but I have zero interest in committing $18 million annually to Sandoval and his ballooning waistline or $20 million a year for six years for a 31-year-old Ramirez.

So how did Yost not win Manager of the year? It's like all the other awards. Regular season matters only. Ballots have been in for quite a while they just don't announce till after the season.

Based on the free agent rumors that are out there, it really seems like the Cubs are planning on making a hard push to the upper tier of the National Leauge in 2015, with plans to be a championship contender in 2016. Which strikes me as odd, considering they dealt their best starting pitcher in Jeff Samardzija and a perfectly cromulent starter in Jason Hammel less than five months ago.

I'm a bit "meh" on the Cuddyer deal for the Mets, as well: older player, unsustainable BABIP in Colorado, net negative on defense, and he's costing the Mets a 1st round pick. However, I've seen other Mets fans absolutely flipping their lids in rage over this deal, which I can't grasp, at all. The guy is a legitimate line drive hitter and an on base machine, so the BABIP drop once he gets to CitiField may be mitigated a bit, Coors H/R splits tend to not be a great reflection of a player's overall abilities, and worst case scenario he's a short term commitment who could probably be shopped to an AL team next season if somebody needs a DH. I don't like losing the 15th pick, either, but odds are the Mets did their due diligence and thought other guys cost too much in years, dollars, or prospects, and that this was the price they were more willing to pay.
Curious how they're going to handle the middle infield situation. I'm honestly fine with giving Wilmer Flores a shot to play everyday; 24 years old, tons of offensive upside, not the defensive liability thought he'd be. That said, I would NOT feel comfortable with him at short, Murphy at 2B, and Duda at 1B; that'd be a shoddy defense, on the whole. Might need to get creative there.
Also, Jacob deGrom is your new lord and master.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Nats and Cubs appear to be in discussions involving Nats pitcher Jordan Zimmermann. Anything less than Castro and a prospect would be a disappointing haul.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports confirms that the Tigers have reached a new four-year deal with Victor Martinez. What scares me is, this means we lose Kluber within two years to trade of free agency. History says it's gonna happen, and that sucks.

In news that was a sad inevitability ever since that video surfaced of him drinking moments before his fatal car accident, Oscar Taveras was extremely intoxicated at the time of the crash that killed him and his girlfriend. sports.yahoo.com/news/official-taveras-drunk-during-fatal-crash-232031608--mlb.htmlAccording to Deadspin, Taveras' blood-alcohol level was .287 and the legal limit in the Dominican Republic is .05.
