Astros signed OF Colby Rasmus to a one-year, $8 million contract. What's wrong with Colby Rasmus in one picture: The reason why Rasmus can never put it together is a confidence issue: It's a lack of confidence in him from his various coaches and batting instructors and his lack of confidence in their ability to help him improve. He tinkers with his approach way too often (and, to be fair, it's at the behest of coaching at times] and quickly will abandon adjustments if he doesn't find immediate success. I still think there's a good ball player in Colby Rasmus somewhere, but I dunno if we'll ever see it.

Other news and notes:
- The Mariners are set to introduce an alternate home jersey this week. Reports are that it will be cream.
- The Jays and Yankees have shown interest in Johan Santana, for what reason, I don't know.
- Cliff Lee has already been throwing off the mound and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Astros signed OF Colby Rasmus to a one-year, $8 million contract. Not a bad deal, even though this easily makes him the most paid player on the club. Hopefully they can work him out and give him confidence. Also, with Selig on his way out, do you think Manfred will crack down on things Selig refused to look at, or will he stand pat? I mean, Selig sided with the Giants every time the A's wanted to move out of the O.co Toilet, the Rays are going to remain stuck in the senior citizen district of Tampa Bay, and he's alright with Peter Angelos being a dickhead.

To be fair, there's really no changing Peter Angelos. We'd all like (even me as a non-O's fan) for him to not be a gigantic douche-copter, but at this point he is who he is.

So the Blue Jays are willing to give up a 10 prospect for an exec?

So the Blue Jays are willing to give up a 10 prospect for an exec? They'd be stupid as hell to trade Hoffman for a team president. It would defy logic.

Damn, this one hurts. Like Ron Santo, it breaks my heart that he died without getting to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series.
RIP, Mr. Cub.

Met Ernie at a signing a few years back. Nice guy who took a lot of time to talk to the fans.
If you ever get a chance, his story about trying to get his 500th homer is great. Forgot what DVD it was on.
