... in modern "WWE style" wrestling, limiting your list to three?
This topic has been rattling around inside my head in recent days, as it's come up in discussions about guys like Ryback, Titus O'Neil, Darren Young, the Rhodes brothers and others — whether certain performers are better off as singles or tag competitors. I've long been a mark for tag teams, with my first WWF favorites being the Twin Towers, but I find it's a bit difficult to qualify exactly what it is that makes a team great, especially during the many phases where the division grows utterly anemic.
I know chemistry between both partners is a big deal for me, as I'm irked we lost Rybaxel when they were just starting to catch on. I'm likewise a huge mark for double-team maneuvers, but looking back at a number of failed teams, they often employ quite a few tandem moves, yet I found the pairings to be unmemorable both then and now. Tag team psychology is its own special beast as well, as matches tend to be a clusterf__k when the four guys fail to gel and tell an engaging story.
What say you, FAN? In the age of the WWE monopoly, what's most essential for tag team greatness?

In this era I'd have to say low singles prospects and minimal ego. With WWE's current method of randomly pushing guys to see what sticks, the only way a tag team can really last is if They DON'T see either guy as the next big thing. I think the reason the Usos have lasted as long as they have is because they're twins.

Gimmick.
Even 2 guys who suck can get over if they connect with the crowd (road warriors, nasty boys, too cool etc)

Matching outfits. A tag-team shouldn't feel like two random singles guys paired together to compensate for lack of creative direction elsewhere.

The problem with the tag division nowadays is it tends to be made up of guys they just threw together because they had nothing else for them to do. Great tag teams had a lot of the elements listed in your poll, and having a common tag team identity to me is very important. Name, finishing move, chemistry, matching outfits.
It can only be achieved if the tag team is kept together for 2-3 years and given proper feuds/storylines. I like what they are doing with the Rhodes Brothers but where it falls short once again is that they have pretty much no legitimate opponents other than the Usos who they already have wrestled constantly this year.
