I wasn't going in expecting much, but the game is fantastic. I have cleared the story, and played a few rounds of co-op. It has a lot of variety, some silly bits, and just a lot of fun frenetic action.
It is the most fun I have had in a single player FPS game in a very long time. Even trumping Wolfenstein, a game I have raved about. Probably the best marquee title released this year. Unless you play last gen, then it is an ugly mess with unrefined controls. But PS4? It is gorgeous and plays like a dream. The graphics reach "um, is that FMV" standards a few times. This is the game that can really show why we went from last gen to current.
After a year of the big releases being disappointing, have a game I had low exceptions for exceed them to a great degree was a wonderful thing.

Haven't kept up with the series at all since maybe MW1 or WAW, but I'm really tempted to pick this up. I want a good shooter to play for my PS4 and the new additions to gameplay make me think this one is going to be worth it.

The campaign isn't the best that the franchise has done (I loved both Black Ops campaigns and even MW2's) but it's at least EONS better than Ghosts. It's short and the story has been done in better video games even, but it's fun and full of the moments that make COD like a blockbuster action movie. And the MP this year is a definite step up. It's actually fun and the exo suits definitely make for some great dogfights. Sure, you can draw comparisons, but seriously...I don't think we can go back to doing single jumps in FPS's again.

The story isn't the best, but it is told way better. You have at least some reason to care about your character because he is actually part of the story and not a faceless drone/brother who never talks. But the levels have more ambiance and slow moments. They have less big action moments and more time to reflect on them. Everything is just paced out better. The only real issue is it is a fairly standard plot. The level design and enemy encounters are better too. SO while it may not have the best story, I will stand up and say it has the best story mode.

That "main character who never talks" thing really bugged me in Ghosts. You go from Black Ops 2 where your character was involved with the story and had conversations with the other characters to playing as a mute who still got asked questions, yet never talks in Ghosts. Terrible step down.

Terrible step down. Ever worse as they tried to make an emotional connection because they are brothers, yet do nothing to make it feel real at all. That game's story had so much potential, and ended up one of the worst missed chances in the series. They could have had this ground, emotionally grounded story, and we got some weird, mute James Bond.
