I hope it's a Winged Goomba kicking the shit out of Mario with a Goomba would be a thing of legend. His final smash better be him summoning a giant Goomba shoe and Ko his opponent by stomping on them.

This is actually big news, especially given the fact that, over a year ago, there was belief that they were working on original fighters in addition to redesigning Roy and Mewtwo (though I think that new project they are talking about might be another Smash Bros. edit that focuses on new creations mainly). I guess the project got too ambitious and they decided to count in their chips and call it a day.

I guess the project got too ambitious and they decided to count in their chips and call it a day. That was what I was thinking too. But my issue with that is that they also pulled the download links. Worth noting, the rest of this post is me throwing darts. I don't know anything factual about it at this point. On one hand, I believe that Nintendo has been well aware of their product for a long time, and would be flat out stunned if the people in power at Nintendo just now found out about Project M. It's like the Mother 3 English patch project. If they don't know about those things, they're unaware of their brands on a gigantic level. And that's not Nintendo; higher-ups at Nintendo have mentioned the Mother 3 English patch before, and Bill Trinnen (in charge of the "Treehouse") has openly mentioned being a fan of Project M and has provided his own Twitter commentary on major events that host Project M tournaments. Now, it is entirely possible they changed their mindset on it and decided to make the call. There are some rumors (pure speculation and nothing else) that a Melee port or an HD remaster is coming to Wii U, and if that's true then a C&D on Project M at this time makes a little more sense. They've already said on Twitter they won't say why they did that, but it has nothing to do with any C&D or legal threat. But on the other, I can't think of any other reason they'd pull the downloads, except maybe if there's some staff in-fighting.

What make people question this decision is eariler last month, they shown off Roy new outfit plus a bunch of redesign Zero Suit Samus outfits too. So they were working on a new upgrade, to suddenly shut on the project after 7+ years.

I remember Knuckles and Lyndis (there was even footage of them fighting) as well as animation tests of Isaac, and that a fan's version of Venus Lighthouse would've replaced Norfair. Based on tweets and comments, the reason for the project ending was to avoid litigation from Nintendo, which is strange because they have spent nearly 7 years with this project and added all sorts of random and original stuff. I mean, if you were going to be afraid, at the very least try to brave through and end the project where you finished all your updates and ended it there.

I already have my own theory on why they suddenly ceased: Nintendo is making an HD version of Melee and didn't want Project M to take interest away from it.

Late to the party, I know, but I just got the 3DS one.
Little Mac is OP as hell. Well...as long as he stays on the ground.
