THIS is mine.
Backyard wrestling from when I was 12 to 14. Stopped in 2001. One of the happiest times of my life as overly nostalgiac as that may sound.
I used footage of the backyard wrestling event we did ´"Hellraiser" for the music video for a band I´m in. We're not a great band, and I wasn´t a great backyard wrestler either (I´m the one wearing the white shirt and black tie). If you don´t like the song, just mute it. But making this took me back to that time. This was certainly one of my favourite childhood memories.
Did anyone here backyard wrestle? If not, what is your favourite childhood memory?
(We were not a sadistic backyard wrestling group who would "die for the WWF". We used fake blood, a big padded mattress, fake barbed wire and only knew about three moves between us.)

f***, there's a lot. Mostly Christmases and stuff. But the big one that I'll always remember (and the one that built me into the gelatinous glob I am today) was the day we got our Nintendo.
I was one of the last kids in my class that didn't have a Nintendo but I'd played it a friend's houses. We went to a kids church group on Monday night's until about seven in the evening (I was eight, my sister was four or five and my brother was three or four) we got home as pumped as kids that age could be coming home from a Monday church group and it was sitting there on the kitchen table. I flipped. My brother flipped because I was flipping and my sister never really cared but she flipped just for the sake of flipping. "IS THIS OURS, IS THIS OURS, OH MY GOD WE GOT NINTENDO WE GOT NINTENDO!!!!!!"
So late-1980's technology being as stellar as it was my dad took an hour to hook it up (I'm sure the eight year old about to have a heart attack didn't help) and got it going about ten minutes before I had to go to bed. We had Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, Ice Hockey and Pebble Beach Golfing.
The next day I was still flying and I ran into my classroom and was still yelling "I GOT NINTENDO". Of course, everyone else already did so they didn't really care. And who played that Nintendo more than anyone? My dad.

One of my favorite childhood memories was when the next door neighbors were putting up a new garage. I'm pretty sure it didn't have windows, or anything yet. It was basically just walls and a cement floor. The automatic door didn't even work yet, only way in or out was through a regular door on the side. So a bunch of the neighborhood kids decided we'd go inside, shut the door, and play tag in there.
It was amazing, haha.

A game could be brutal back then and I was still batshit insane for it.

My best bonding moment with my father when I took him to see the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
He paid for everything, though, because I was 8.
Don't have many moments like that with him, so that is especially special to me.

Breaking my arm when I was 6.
A lot happened afterwards that made me really feel like I was aware of people and how they react to stuff.

I know I've shared this story before.... probably will share a lot more as it gets closer to Xmas... as this year is the most important and most nerve-wracking Xmas of my life as it's the first without my Mom. Being that Xmas is the time of year her life revolved around, it'll be tough celebrating without being able to include her.
But anyway...
I wanted Optimus Prime like nobody's business when I was little. I just knew that was a Xmas present because I was of the opinion that nothing that amazing could possibly exist in my possession without Santa Clause's Intervention.
I swear I must've driven my parents nuts.... going to the mall, staring longingly at it... I'm pretty sure I could've been considered for saint-hood due to how hard I tried to stay on the nice list leading up to that day. But, it was Optimus Freaking Prime... every kid wanted him for Xmas! In a pre-online world, if it wasn't at your store.. it wasn't in your possession... and my mom was unable to secure one. So she settled upon the next best thing... Megatron. I'm sure she stared at it... sighed... hoped it would be okay... then brought it home and put it in her special Santa hiding spot. (Still no clue where that place was..... )
But I was dead-set.... Optimus Prime. Xmas Eve was our family night, I really didn't expect Optimus that night as I had been very adamant about Santa being able to come through. But still... you can't help but feel a little defeated when your holy grail isn't included in your colorful mountain of presents. No big though.... Santa will come through. Of course, that night... I was awake with excitement when I should've been asleep... when my mind started wandering a bit. For some reason.... the thought of having Megatron was appealing to me. So much so, I felt compelled to share my epiphany. I went to my mom's room, knocked on the door and confessed, "You know what? I was thinking....I'd be fine if Santa brought me Megatron instead." Then I went back to bed.
I have no idea what she felt. Be it relief that her gamble would pay off... or, why did I have a sudden change of heart? I don't think this night was locked in her mind as much as mine, so I never knew what she thought.... but I figured she must've thought I had stumbled across the Megatron.... figured out the Santa ruse... didn't receive it for Xmas Eve... and rather than make her feel bad, I relented and just said, "yeah. Megatron's fine."
However, that morning (Okay... it was probably like... 3:30AM or whenever I could pass out long enough to be reasonably sure my parents were asleep and I could sneak out to the living room) .... I looked down and there he was... Megatron. I was happy. I was excited. But then, I had one thought.....
"... Aw man, HE HEARD ME!!!! I should've held out for one more night!"

When I was 4, I had to have a shunt put in. I was so terrified of being in the hospital, but my entire family made sure I would be as happy as possible. All I wanted was a Steve Urkel doll, and a Kevin McCallister doll. My parents bought me Kevin and my uncle brought me Urkel the day before my surgery, so I wouldn't be scared. When I had an IV put in, the nurse put one in the Urkel doll, and when I went for an x-Ray, Kevin had one, too. Also, that Christmas, I got a Barbie car

Boy, this is really hard, because I have so many memories of playing with my cousin, Joe, but Christmas memories are also happy and easier for me to remember. I think my happiest memory is when I got the Nintendo. We had Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt, Tag Team Wrestling, Castlevania II, Top Gun, and Dragon Warrior. I remember being so excited about Dragon Warrior, because it had been offered as a free gift...along with my subscription to Nintendo Power that Mom got me at the same time as the Nintendo!! We actually hooked up a little tv in the living room and played Nintendo almost the entire day, it was great! This happiest memory could change next time we talk about this, but right now, getting my Nintendo is the memory that sticks out the most.

I just loved playing with my action figures and then wrestling in my bedroom with this huge teddy and then later a punchbag. I would do all sorts of moves and would create a knockoff version of WWF and even created my own paper WWF magazine with drawinings and articles. I loved Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and would play for hours aswell. I also dressed up as many wrestlers for fun it was the best time ever.

I was in this really awesome rec basketball league from like 8-11 years old. The atmosphere was insane, it was like a small college feel, one side of bleachers that were always full of kids from other teams and their parents, and they were loud as f***. This was High Point, North Carolina, which is even more Basketball Country than it is Flair country.
I was never much of scorer but I always played a lot of minutes because I was a big, tall kid and did the dirty work, like rebounding, defense, taking charges, etc. But one game, our team the Squires was just feeling it, and we were all jacking threes and nailing them, like pulling up on fast breaks and shit. Our coach was sick and the assistant coach was pretty loose with us, so we were just runnin' and gunnin'. I remember grabbing a rebound, dribbling up the court and letting one fly from about 25 feet and naling it, the crowd roared and I felt like I was the baddest man on the planet for those fleeting seconds. Total 10 year old jock nirvana.
Definitely the best atmosphere I've ever enjoyed when playing sports.

Probably when I found out I would be going to a WWE live event for the first time. Or the actual event itself. I'll never forget the moment when I walked into the arena and saw that ring sitting there in the middle.

For a brief time in college, I hung out with some guys who did backyard wrestling. They actually had a semi-legit ring reconstructed from parts found in a dumpster behind a local gym. It was all fake, like what you described; we weren't blading with cheese graters or anything stupid like that. In fact, we spent more time cutting promos on each other than actually wrestling. As far as my favorite childhood memory, going to the zoo for the first time has to be mine. It was my 7th birthday. The gorilla copying me after I beat my chest at it was the highlight. I even got my first scar that day: my dad had put me on his shoulders to get a better look at the hippos, but when he put me down, I scraped my calf on a piece of rebar sticking out of the ground.
