We have some odd names for cites in Michigan as well.
Hell, Zilwaukee (no I did not misspell that),Pigeon,Ubly,and many others.

Shit, I never thought I'd see the town I grew up in (Ubly) mentioned on here ever. Also, you reference Pigeon and Ubly as weird names, but you forgot to mention Bad Axe, which was literally named after a damaged, worn-out axe found in a stump by surveyors observing the area. I believe they're also the only high school in the country to use Hatchets as a nickname. |

I grew up in Beaver County, which was supposedly named after Native American leader King Beaver. For awhile, the Beaver school district was known as "Big Beaver." It has since been changed to the comparatively normal "Beaver." Big Beaver Falls is still going strong, however.

"Sorry, I can't do that today grandma; I have a few errands to run and I'm going to be spending a couple hours in Twatt." Though with UK town names, it's probably pronounced something completely unrelated to the letters used due to some manner of tradition. I used to live in a town called Forney. The mascot were jackrabbits, but kids joked at times it should be the Gators, so we'd be the Forney Gators. Rich humor in middle school, of course. |
