Many World of Warcraft players would say Thrall is a huge Mary Sue.

I try not to list any Wrestlers because any top face (even Daniel Bryan) falls under the label on the basis of being an escapist character.

Alice (the Resident Evil live action films) SpongeBob Squarepants Not sure about Spongebob, just in that while he is very capable in some fields, like being an exceptional frycook, he is also a character who is woefully unskilled in a multitude of things, and is often made to experience failures and misfortunes that other characters escape. He is also shown to be usually disliked by people who are not his friends or coworkers or ignored entirely, with only those intimately familiar with him tolerating some of his quirks, and even then, he often wears thin on them for inconsiderate behavior or naivete to the point of obliviousness. That said, I haven't really seen much of the show post-movie, and it's possible that things have changed a lot. I know many people have said the newer episodes lack the tone of the originals.

As much as it pains me to say, I think Abed in Community has become this to some extent.
He's usually always right and has all the wisdom, when the group were deciding on a "new Pierce" Abed was immediately ruled out, and Abed was shown to be the only sane member of the group in the Season 3 Halloween episode.
Not to mention how he messes with everyone in the group's head, tries to control their lives, plants tracking devices on them, Troy had to work really hard for Abed not to get his legs broken by that impersonator guy and he ruined Hickey's illustrations just so he could go see a movie.

I'm tempted to say Mario. He seems to be good at everything(Kart racing, Tennis, fighting) and has no real flaws. He can fly, swim, jump high, shoot fireballs, and lift heavy objects. In spite of being overweight, he seems to be a chick magnet in the Paper Mario series. Everyone appears to love him(even Bowser at times) and everyone talks about how great he is.
Weird.

Weird. he's not really "good" at them... he can do it but he's not the fastest or strongest or specifically great at anything. Flying swimming moving heavy objects and shooting fireballs any of the characters can do and Luigi can jump like twice as high as he can. Also with the amount of times he has saved the kingdom at this point it makes sense that people would basically treat him like a celebrity.

Having gone through the latest BlazBlue game? Amazing. It gets so bad with Celica that you almost start thinking it's trolling, but then it just keeps going, and going, and going...

Stephanie McMahon Constantly written to be the alpha female, hard working, self-made businesswoman who outsmarts all others and forces everyone to back down. I don't think that's true any more. In recent years she's got a semi-frequent comeuppance. They lost at Survivor Series, Bryan won the title, Vickie lost the match but she still threw Steph in the goo. Anyway, I think a lot of people replying to this thread need to have a look at what a Mary Sue actually is, Bella Swann is pretty much the only one of those mentioned so far that really counts, although if Vince controls Cena's booking as much as people imply he's a half-decent candidate.

Vickie pushes her into shit, she's back a week later still in control of everything. They lose at Survivor Series, she'll be back, doing the same old routine.

HHH should focus on developmental and Stephanie on whatever nominal corporate position they've given her.

Well, we disagree on that anyway, but we're also in Off Topic and also going off this thread's topic at that!

Disagree. Abed is often right and such. But the guy has some severe flaws to balance things out. He may be an asshole from time to time, but his inability to understand social cues isn't an advantage. Also, he often gets into trouble thanks to these, and he freaks out when anything upsets his fragile world view. He's like a more tolerable Sheldon Cooper with better imagination and timing.

Bobby in "Dallas" was Mary Sue-ish
It seemed the writers made him too perfect and wholesome just to contrast him with JR

Nah, Mario gets things done, but almost never totally on his own. And anybody who ever needs help from lazy cowards like Toad and (sometimes) Peach to win couldn't be a Sue in his wildest dreams.

Gotta be honest, I don't like the idea of automatically branding characters with Mary Sue style traits as being badly written or conceived off of the bat.
Just by looking at all of the popular names in this thread, I think it's possible to create compelling and sympathetic characters while still giving them those escapist traits, as crymsonfox mentioned. And there's nothing wrong with escapism so long as they still have to deal with important stakes in the story. Superman, Batman, Harry Potter, Bond, Katniss Everdeen, all good examples of people you can still root for despite them being too amazing to be real.
If you combed around hard enough, I bet you could find just as many entertaining "Sues" as you could annoying ones.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando is an example of a hugely entertaining Mary Sue
He's indestructible, mows down half the army of Val Verde singlehandedly, easily kills both villains, and barely suffers a scratch
And it's awesome!

Six pages and no mention of this guy: One could say that Kira had been "Goku'ed". Also, Lacus Clyne fits the bill as well. Kira and Lacus are Japan's answer to Edward and Bella, with Athrun as Jacob. Finally, this:
