Bank guy 1: "Do you know who's money this is? Do you know who's building this is?" Castle: "Howard Saint's" Bank guy 2: "He's gonna f*** your life up!" Castle: "He already f***ed my life up"
One of my favourite lines from the movie.

"This is not about vengeance. Revenge is not a motive, it's an emotional response. No, not vengeance...punishment."
Love that line!!
Joan: I know it's not Thanksgiving, but I'd like for us to say what we're thankful for. I'll start, I'm thankful to be alive, to have a job, and to be sober.
Spacker Dave: Yeah, I'm thankful for my mom... getting out of jail, which is cool, and this girl who gave me her number, which is also cool.
Bumpo: Thanks for leftovers, full. Thanks for Diet Pepsi, and thanks for good neighbors.
[Awkward silence. Everyone looks at Frank, who has hurriedly cleaned his plate already] Frank Castle: Thanks for dinner.
I LOVE the song In Time. It's probably one of my favorites!

I really felt the 2004 version tried to combine Garth Ennis' original fun run(Welcome Back Frank) with his MAX version and the resulting taste was not good. That being said I could watch from the Russian fight to the end credits all day.
War Zone was slightly worse because they took a bunch of storylines from the MAX run and injected goofy humor into them.
The original with Dolph Lundgren is in no way The Punisher.
And to anyone making a Punisher film in the future...he's a Vietnam vet. Not Iraq or Afghanistan. It's a crucial building block of Frank Castle's persona. If that means you have to set it in the 80's or make Castle 70 that's the price you pay.

If that means you have to set it in the 80's or make Castle 70 that's the price you pay. To be fair, the reason Castle was made into a Desert Storm vet in the 2004 film was to modernize the character a bit. I didn't mind that the change was made to be a little more modern. By the way, which stories from the MAX series had some elements used in the 2004 film? I read "Welcome Back, Frank" a few years after seeing this film, as well as playing the 2005 game, and I see where a lot of the elements from that story were used in the film, like the neighbors, and The Russian making an appearance. Some of the characters' personalities were changed a bit, too. Joan was played by Rebecca Romijn, a beautiful, leggy model, whereas the comic version was more or less a mousy-yet-sort-of-cute woman who was painfully shy and quiet. Bumpo may have been obese, but was not portrayed as the behemoth that he was in the comics who wouldn't stop eating. And Spacker Dave, well he was also the comic relief but there were some differences in the portrayals of both versions. As for the Dolph Lundgren film, I like to take that movie for face value and just enjoy it for what it is: a balls-to-the-wall action movie from the 1980s. I bet that if the film wasn't named "The Punisher," it would get more respect.

I would watch the hell out of Thomas Jane as The Punisher as seen in Dirty Laundry. That was simple, brutal, and engaging.

I get the modernization...but no. Vietnam was a totally different war. It's what made him The Punisher. Like I said, if that means a 70 year old Frank, so be it. I feel it's the overall tone. They took the skeleton storyline from Welcome Back Frank which was very light and fun(He feeds Ma Gnucci to a polar bear!) and laid a grim/brooding tone over it. It would have been fine if they didn't use the neighbors or the Russian and was just about him going after Saint. 100% agree. If it was called "SkullKnife" I'd be a much bigger supporter of it.

Didn't they shoehorn in Maginty from Kitchen Irish and the Bulats from The Slavers?
Yeah, pretty sloppy movie, but Stevenson was awesome as Castle, and we all know Wayne Knight was born to play Micro.

I absolutely love the character of the Punisher/Frank Castle, so was stoked when I heard he was coming to the big screen. Gotta say I loved Tom Jane in the lead role, hated the stuff with Joan, Dave and the other dude (don't remember his name). All that just didn't serve a purpose to me except to show that Castle had people watching his back. The fight scene with Kevin Nash as the Russian still makes me laugh, Travolta was a good heel of the movie, even though he hammed it up a tad. Overall I really enjoyed the movie. One of my favourites. What did other people think of it? Liked Jane as Frank Castle. Really liked pretty much everyone in the film besides Travolta. Who was so bad it drug the movie down. It is sad that this made decent money when the best Punisher film,War Zone, was a bomb.

I think the movie's pretty damn fun. It's stupid and it's flawed in a lot of ways, but a lot of it works and I enjoy it for it.

Either they should have Jane in make-up as the Vietnam Veteran Punisher or have it with Stevenson again. You really can't go wrong with either of them in this situation. Both did great with what they were given.
I absolutely hated the depiction of Jigsaw though. The villain is very over the top and hammy visually. But performance/attitude wise he just wasn't menacing, scary, and ruthless enough for me to be afraid of him. I know the sequel with Thomas Jane was supposed to have Baracuda(spelling?) as the main villain.

Now Marvel has the rights back I hope we get another Punisher flick. Another huge punishable offense if we are not given another Punished flick to at least tie-in to Civil War.

I think it's one of the most underrated and unfairly shit on movies ever. Tom Jane was extremely good as Frank Castle and actually gave a damn about the role. I still watch it fairly often and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time I initially watched it.
I also remember how big the soundtrack was. I used to own it, but now I can't even remember half of the songs on it besides "In Time".

I saw the soundtrack in the CD rack at Half Priced Books and bought it. I got in my car and put the disc in and after a few seconds of music said to myself, "Somethings wrong here." I ejected the disc and looked at it. The disc that was in the case for The Punisher soundtrack was the Daredevil soundtrack. Talk about a letdown.

When it was in the works they didn't have an actor named for him. I just remember Thomas Jane was stoked and said he wanted the sequel to be more hardcore, bloody, and that he was demanding they'd put Baracuda or Jigsaw in it.

The only song on it I would say is bad is Bound to Violence and that's more just not my cup of tea. Yes, I'm even giving the Nickelback song on there a pass, I actually like that one mostly for the riff. It's also funny how WWE's used like at least half of the songs on it at some point. The most obvious of them of course is Slow Chemical, but I know they've used Step Up, Bleed, Still Running, Eyes Wired Shut, and In Time before and I think a few of the other songs too.

I'm too in love with "Welcome Back, Frank" to enjoy this movie because I just end up noticing all the ways they deviated from the comic. Which is fine, but yeah it takes me out of it. It's not a bad film at all though.
