I couldn't watch PPV's until well into the attitude era... my parents said it was something to do with the cable box... but I always suspected that's just what they told me so I'd stop bugging them about it

I think they're missing opportunities to do broadcast events that are themed at house shows, like a six-man tag tourney or 30-minute Iron Man challenge (hosted at different house shows over the course of a month) or "Lethal Lottery" that could be network exclusives. I understand the production values of this, but if they could "NXT it," I know I would be totally cool with it. Plus, that NXT team could broadcast. I freaking love that team. That's a fantastic idea. Lethal Lottery, battle royals, King of the Ring. It wouldn't even need to have the top stars in it (probably be better without them) to make it worth watching. Sorry for overposting in the thread. I forgot to include that part of it. That was in my head the whole time. I was thinking mid-carders with an upper midcarder or two or three. It strengthens upper midcarders as credibles by giving them a program that highlights them instead of being "just short" of the upper echelon like HHH and Cena and Orton make everyone look. Also, it makes mid-carders hecka more interesting and valuable. So yes, I completely agree with you. I forgot to include it in my post.

I like the Thanksgiving night aspect of the PPV but I guess as the years went by Vince, or someone on the production team, made the decision to change nights and I'm thinking that had to do with letting the guys have the holiday with family. To me, having a special day for a PPV added a special feel to what has become just another Sunday night. The 4 PM Wrestlemanias or Royal Rumbles or whatever PPV had early start times were another special feel.
I suppose another reason for changing days could be lower fan turnout. We can see on the Survivor Series 88 video (during Powers of Pain entrance) that the front few rows in the back were empty. That looked bad on camera.
As mentioned a few posts ago, a PPV like this or Battle Bowl does give guys who would normally not be showcases a small chance to shine. 88 Survivor Series is the only thing memorable for Conquistadors. 87 had the Bees and Stallions as the winners. The battle royal of Slamboree 96 saw a number of lower to mid card guys making it to the end.

The Royal Rumble used to be like that too until they changed it so that realistically only a hand full of guys can win. I'm in favor of big names winning it sometimes, because it adds to the prestige of the match. Just like in BattleBowl, Sting and Vader winning gave the event credibility so that when DDP won it in '96, it was a big event.
