The Simpsons
I love Family Guy, but I'd still take the worst Simpsons episode over the best Family Guy episode. The Simpsons are on a level all to themselves for me.

Well that's a definite ass-whupping. Family Guy is the Cena to Simpsons' Brock. Genuinely thought this would be a bit more even since I always see them compared.

The reasons they're compared is obvious, but everything The Simpsons had done before Family Guy even premiered meant that there was almost no chance that Family Guy would ever match up. In fact, Family Guy's always been competing with a "past it's prime" Simpsons and still losing. No matter how much Seth wants to think so, they're not the Simpsons' peer. If anything I'd put Family Guy up against South Park and it would still lose imo. And again, I actually like Family Guy.

To be honest, I think The Simpsons has been generally pretty good since Season 20 or 21, which is about when they finished the movie. The teen seasons were probably bottom barrel. The style of humor's changed and I don't think it'll ever reach its prime again, but it's consistently enjoyable. The recent Futurama crossover is also one of my favorite episodes since the Golden Age and I think it'd fit right in with them.

The Simpsons. The best days of both shows are behind them, but Simpsons at its worst is just boring. Family Guy is completely intolerable with its lazy Meta Humor.

How does saying random animated shows contribute to the conversation? At least say "I prefer Home Movies to Family Guy" or whatever. If that is what you're trying to say. This isn't a "best animated series ever" thread is it? I read it as "which is better, Simpsons or Family Guy" not "Which is the best ever".

I answered the question earlier. The Critic.

Never realized it was a scientific poll. I answered the question earlier. The Critic. Lol fair enough man. I'm just wondering what the point is of naming random animated shows. Meh. I think it stems from how many watchable episodes of Family Guy there are, and if you take that number(50-75), then you have more options I guess.

I wish now I'd added more shows to the poll to see if it changed anything. Can I do that?

I wish now I'd added more shows to the poll to see if it changed anything. Can I do that? Don't make the poll "Best Animated Show Ever" just "Best of these shows" or you're going to get a hell of a lot more arguments, but I'm pretty sure you can delete the poll and add a different poll with more options. Worst case if you can't you can always make another thread.

I feel like American Dad has surpassed Family Guy at this point.

I feel like American Dad has surpassed Family Guy at this point. I agree. American Dad is kinda like the anti-Family Guy in some ways. Family Guy started out solid and went to shit while American Dad started out horrible and became pretty good. American Dad also generally has pretty smart writing while Family Guy's is lazy. Stan also has his heart in the right place most of the time, even if it backfires a lot. Peter's just an asshole.

Modern South Park is every bit as good as classic Simpsons, but in a different way.

I think it helps too that a lot of American Dad's jokes comes from all the character quirks while Family Guy has some weird combination of being on a soap box and referential humor.

I feel like American Dad has surpassed Family Guy at this point. That's becoming more of a common thought at this point, and definitely so on the Internet. American Dad is pretty great, while Family Guy is just unwatchable shit with unlikable characters up the ass.

Yeah, there isn't a single likable character on Family Guy. Peter's an asshole. Lois is obnoxious. Chris is a moron. Stewie is played out. Brian is a douchebag. And I just feel sorry for Meg because she's a constant target of overwhelming, mean-spirited verbal and physical abuse.

Strange thing is that when Family Guy writers were given a golden chance to write the Simpsons, they mostly hit it out of the park. The only two really bad moments in the crossover was the done a million times fat guy carwash and unneeded rape joke that was probably Bart's worst moment ever to me. Most of the jokes were otherwise pretty well done and would of fit in a more mature Golden Age Simpsons.
