As much as people have been unimpressed with a lot of 2014 there have been some very high points. It occurred to me recently that some of the most well received or appreciated moments (in this forum at least) were at the big 4 PPVs, often at the end of them.
Wrestlemania had Bryan's victory over HHH and then his triumph over Batista and Orton, yessing with the audience that show went off the air. It was the culmination of six months of fan frenzy and the majority felt all was right with the world as their voices had finally been heard.
Then you got Summerslam where Brock Lesnar suplexed Cena a crap ton of times in a squash that rivals Warrior taking out HTM for how surprising it was. Again, this was a moment that stuck with people and left many fans excited as it showed a chink in the armour of WWE's Superman. None had seen Cena manhandled like that (at least since his rise to the main event) and fans were left anxiously waiting to see what happened next.
Finally, Survivor Series had two moments in Dolph winning for Team Cena after surviving possibly hundreds of pin attempts and three to one odds. That alone would have been memorable, particularly since Cena was in the match. It was a huge moment. Of course the mega moment was Sting's arrival. For anyone who'd been a fan in the 80s/90s this was a moment of awe, dreams come true (okay there were a few naysayers but that doesn't fit my narrative). I suspect that all of these moments will be discussed for years to come on this forum and elsewhere.
It seems that this year for the big 4, the WWE has really ended things with a bang and I have to wonder what's coming for Royal Rumble. Can they keep the momentum? I'm the first to admit that they have really failed to capitalize on the first two really big moments and time will tell on the Survivor Series big moments but that's not what I'm thinking about right now. What I'm thinking about right now is what will happen with the Royal Rumble. Can its ending even touch the other 3? Can it make up for last year?
