You and me both, brother! Doug really hit the nail on the head on this one. He very much explained exactly how I felt about the whole movie. Good review, horrible movie.

I think that's one of those movies that you could tell should have been a series. Condensing an entire book series into a movie is hard enough, but the movie had too many interesting concepts introduced that just went unexplained or unexplored in the end.

Never did think the movie would have got big as it did I didn't think so either before I saw the film and I don't think a lot of people would think that movie would have gotten as big as it did. Of course, once they saw it....yeah, you could see it.

There's also the whole it being Goro Mizayakis first film. It's got a lot of points where it feels like a more experienced director would make it a lot tighter. But yeah, the Earthsea series is pretty long so Tales is pretty all over the place.

I don't know, I feel like any director tasked with making a multi-book series into one movie would have that problem.

So anybody planning a lynch mob for Doug? Because I'm in. I still owe him one for not liking "Emperor's New Groove".

So anybody planning a lynch mob for Doug? Because I'm in. I still owe him one for not liking "Emperor's New Groove". I find that Marvel movies seem to have RABID fanbases (even by Disney standards) that just can't stand an "it's ok" review. I liked GOTG, but only saw it once and, considering I still don't own the THOR movies, probably am not buying it on Blu-Ray/DVD anytime soon. And when I think this, I fear that someone will hunt me down and sodomize me with bricks and mallets for not losing weight crapping my pants in sheer delight over it. Bricks and mallets. This was not said in light for the message board post. It's a constant fear.

My parents went to Disneyland a few months after it came out and they were completely sold out of EVERYTHING Frozen related... and Elsa had the longest lines for their meet the princesses event they have by hours.

Hell Disney themselves had no idea it would be as big as it did. They were completely unprepared for it. 2 years later, they're putting a Frozen ride in the pre-existing Norway attraction at Epcot. THAT's how you know they weren't prepared. That they don't even think of it existing on its own (like their Star Wars park plans), but instead doing something that comes across as last minute, shoehorned in, and has pissed off the purist fans something fierce. At least the merchandise is beyond everywhere now, though, so everything I just said means nothing I suppose.

.........this wasn't a theatrical release, was it? I was surprised this wasn't covered in his original Disneycember batch, when I realized that it might've been either a direct-to-video or direct-to-Disney Channel movie instead. Would love to know (as I can't access it anything video at work) if he talks about the sequels - especially the one which, somehow, takes place on Mars.

That might explain its original exclusion from Disneycember, I guess. IMDB mentioned something about it getting an Emmy nomination, which led me to think it was direct-to-TV. Also, the Brave Little Toaster series was one of if not the last of Thurl Ravencroft's contributions to Disney...
