So in a recent interview responding to VKM's Austin podcast Swagger says "hundreds of thousands" of people want to be on the WWE roster.. now if he means fans with far away pipedreams then maaaybe, but I can't imagine the total number of active pro wrestlers in the world right now would top ten thousand (or even come close to it)... come to think of it based on the size of the rosters of all known promotions right now what would even be a good ballpark figure for total number of wrestlers worldwide?

Well, I guess from the perspective that if Vince saw any random person at a shopping mall and offered them a contract out of the blue they would most likely take it, I would agree with him. But I don't think there are even hundreds of thousands of active pro wrestlers in the world.

Like you said, only possible if you count all the fans who dream of being in the WWE even though they would never cut it as a pro wrestler.

Well, I suppose it's possible that hundreds of thousands of people want to be on the roster since 27 million people watch WWE programming.

I used to until I heard all the stories about what a circus the company is to work for. However, at only 6,0 & 140 pounds soaking wet, unless they are looking for a new Spike Dudley, I don't think WWE will be too bothered about me not wanting to work there.

Of course I want to be on the WWE roster. I also want to be an Avenger, a race car driver, Batman and be the Super Bowl MVP. None are happening. Don't talk like that. You could be all of those things. All you have to do is...

I don't really know how to break this to Jack Swagger, but I'm gonna try to be as diplomatic as I can.
Not to diminish your accomplishments in college, but *you* never wanted to be a WWE Superstar. You were scouted and given the opportunity. It just kinda fell into your lap.
There aren't hundreds of thousands of people who want to be WWE Superstars. Not in the "actively trying to make it happen" type way. Not in the "working in Starbucks, taking acting classes, and auditioning at every opportunity" way. Statistically, independent wrestlers that put in the time to become good at what they do will at least get a look from the company.
Then again, WWE seems to think that there are a hundred million wrestling fans in the US alone, so...

Don't tell me a pro wrestler was exaggerating. That's crazy talk, and I don't mean the casino guy.

We are really reading way too much into this. This is no more ridiculous than a rock star saying 'millions of people wish they were in my shoes.' That doesn't make it any less true just because some people have no rhythm, no talent or, better yet, have both but are not actively trying to be a rock star every single day.
Hundreds of thousands of people DO wish they were wrestlers, or envy being in his shoes, and that doesn't stop being true just because 98% of them aren't attempting to make it happen.

It doesn't even need to be this. Swagger's obviously exaggerating to get a point across, and people really shouldn't be taking his comment literally. At the very least, there really are a crap load of people who want to be wrestlers and work for WWE.
