They'll put him in there with a tomato can. If not, he's gonna get his ass kicked. For his first fight. Maybe his second too. If/when he wins, you can bet someone better will start crowing, and MMA fans/anti-WWE will start crowing, and White and even Punk will almost be forced to arrange a fight against someone better and thats when he'll get exposed and embarrassed. Its almost impossible to protect Punk in UFC. If this was a lower level league, then its different. IMO there is NO ONE in the top 15 of Welter or Middle rankings that I'd give Punk an edge over. Punk is not Brock. He's not going to be able to power out of this. Deepest divisions in the entire world and Punk is jumping in headfirst.

It's a pretty good marketing move for UFC. I have no interest in it generally, yet am very interested in seeing Punk fight.

I wish him well.
Definitely a publicity stunt for UFC, and they'll give him a shitty opponent to start with, but if they ever give him real competition, it will either surprise us or be a complete trainwreck. No in between.

I like Punk and I hope he does well. I always root for dudes from WWE to do well in the new challenges they take on. Those salty UFC fighters need to go take their complaints to management tho

As you said, in a division like Welter or Middle weight, there's really not a wealth of guys to feed him to; 98 percent of those guys would/will decimate him.

So let us speculate which guy gets his first fight? Might as well assume it could be one and done and toss someone with a little name value in there. How about Cung Le?

Brock Motherf***ing Lesnar went 5-3 against top competition and he did that mostly on pure athletic ability. Punk is a good pro wrestler but he's not exactly a prime athlete at this point in his life. Dude is going to get hammered. Honestly I'd look for him to pull out of his first fight with a phantom injury.

Guys, UFC has always been about publicity. It's the WWE of the MMA world. They know how to market themselves better than any other MMA business. We'll see how he does, but based on everything he has said WWE believed he would do, this is a big F*** You to them. They said he would go to TNA, he didn't. They wanted to put a no compete for UFC even though Vince doesn't see them as competition, he is going there to do exactly that. Will he succeed and make WWE look like asses or make himself look like an ass? We'll see, but like others have said, he does have the training to get this done (training with the Gracies is not a freaking picnic since they tend to be freaking legit). Good on him to try. This is the modern equivalent of a big time WWE star going to WCW. TNA is not and never was even WCW. This is WWE's real competition and they know it and hes going to bring the people that loved him in WWE to UFC. IMO it wont be that big of a deal because not every WWE fan likes MMA. What I was saying was WWE was telling Punk's lawyer that they knew he was going to TNA and Punk's lawyer told them that wasn't happening.

Dana has already stated that he's going to treat Punk differently than how he did with Brock Lesnar.

Honestly I'd look for him to pull out of his first fight with a phantom injury. Lesnar was also in heavyweight at a time when it was even weaker as a division than it is now. Punk wants to fight at either 170-185 which are both pretty strong divisions. That's a(nother) big reason I can't see it going well for him.

Eve trains with the Gracies, and even with that I think she'd get destroyed jumping right into UFC. If you want a comparison, it would be like Derek Jeter just deciding he wanted to play basketball and the Knicks gave him a contract. Against even the Sixers, Jeter would get smoked.

Brock Motherf***ing Lesnar went 5-3 against top competition and he did that mostly on pure athletic ability. Punk is a good pro wrestler but he's not exactly a prime athlete at this point in his life. Dude is going to get hammered. Honestly I'd look for him to pull out of his first fight with a phantom injury. and the fact that he was an NCAA division 1 championship wrestler. If he didn't have that ability he wouldn't have won fights, even with his size and athleticism. That can only take a guy so far because he ran into another top level HW wrestler who had a more rounded game. For as salty as MMA fans were about Brock..simply because he was from the WWE. Any prospect coming in with Brock Lesnar's credentials as an amateur wrestler would be considered the best prospect in MMA. His success shouldn't have come as a surprise, even as quickly as it did considering HW is shallow and he had the best base for MMA. So it wasn't merely pure athletic ability. CM Punk will be like Herschel Walker. They'll find guys with virtually no ability as his opponents and at his age i doubt he'll stick around too long. UFC will help him succeed at first so don't expect Punk to get squashed in his first match. I hope he does well even if it's a publicity stunt. I just hope he has guys around him that are going to be honest with him about his prospects so he doesn't try to bite of more than he can chew. You can survive a fight or two in the UFC if you're low on skills. They still employ some bar room level fighters in a lot of MMA orgs, UFC included. Punk will atleast easily find the luxury of high level training partners.
