Interesting, I'm not too well versed on UFC or MMA in general but I might check out Punk's fights just to see how he does.

So Punk will moan endlessly about guys taking top spots in WWE who have no business being there, but will gladly stampede over legit fighters to get top billing on a UFC PPV? Either Hes exceedingly brave or hes a stupid hypocrite. Either way the only winner here is Dana White.
He might get massacred in UFC.

I am absolutely geeked for this and happy for Punk. Can't wait to find out who he's up against.

Huge Punk fan but I do not see this ending well. Wait for his first opponent to attack the shit out of his legs with kicks. Plus I doubt he has ever cut weight in his life so he is going to be one of the smaller guys in his weight class.
Edit, I haven't seen the interview. Yes going to 170?

My heart wants him to do well (even if he loses, at least have some good fights).
My brain thinks he'll get killed.
My sense of humour believes this is because of an elaborate rib by Lesnar ("sure, go ahead, you'll do fine!").

5-6 years ago this may have made sense, He himself admits he's too banged to continue wrestling, and has had multiple concussions among other serious injuries so I dont see how a "real sport". I'll admit Im not a fan of mma and have never followed it. I sure hope he comes to senses and considers being a color commentator for them, or considers a career in sports broadcasting. The man has natural charisma, and better utilize his talent- than risking his life. But than again Batista was 43 and he won his first mma fight.

Dana White's transformation to Vince McMahon is now 85% complete. Still missing a strut, hair plugs and an animated Youtube video where his ass does tricks. I remember watching this fight and thinking to myself if this was the last day of my life, I really wasted it.

What I was saying was WWE was telling Punk's lawyer that they knew he was going to TNA and Punk's lawyer told them that wasn't happening. I got you. Unrelated, but this made me lol If he was serious about it, he probably would be. WWE live for that kind of thing.

The only way this can get better is if they go and sign Miz and we finally get that Miz Punk feud we were promised over two years ago. OHHHHHHHHH!

I have a feeling a part of this is to transition him to commentary or some such. But knowing Punk he wants to experience before he runs his mouth.

Batista had one fight. Lashley and Brock had actual wrestling experience in college. And Del Rio's only wins were against a bunch of noobs. Jiu Jitsu or not, the guy sure as hell wasn't training to became a mixed martial artist at all, so if he has to go up against someone who actually has been, lack of experience or not, I expect him to get his ass kicked. I can't take this anymore.... Provide us with one shred of evidence to suggest you know exactly what/when/how Punks trained for? PLEASE be specific. The fact that he doesn't even have a training camp in mind for his first fight, something I think he'd know by now if he was actually training to get into the sport for one.

A little off topic but could this be punk trying to take a dig at WWE and prove he can be successful outside of their venue. The Rock, Jericho and Batista have all gone on to show they can go on to greener pastures and still come back to WWE when they feel like something is in line for them. We've heard Punks thought about the The Rock saying he wasn't the draw from Wrestlemania, i'm paraphrasing. There seems no doubt this is something Punk wanted to try before it passed him by, but I also believe apart of him wants to have the success of at least Jericho and to a certain extent Batista considering he's on the rise right now.

But knowing Punk he wants to experience before he runs his mouth. *doing play-by-play at UFC 195*Punk: "When I was a UFC fighter, one of things you learn to do to prevent takedowns is to sprawl to neutralize your opponent's attack." Rogan: "Dude, you only fought once. And you never got a chance to stop a takedown because the fight was over in 16 seconds after you got kicked so hard in the torso, you ended up with a ruptured spleen and had to have your gallbladder removed."

They'll probably bring in a can for the first fight. But the second he fights anyone worthwhile, he's going to lose... badly.

I do love from that ESPN link that Punk was able to just contact Dana and ask to join up. Dana figures this there is no way he could lose since the PPV buys will be amazing and Punk probably figures that if he is going to give it a shot, he might as well go out with a bang. I mean worst comes to worst he gets knocked out or you tap out and gets to say he fought in the UFC, that's not so bad. I'll be honest if this was any other wrestler I would be moderately pissed but since its Punk it just amuses me.

You know what's kind of funny about this? All the threads going "But he trains with the Gracie's!"
Dude's, it's 2014. The Gracie's are HORRIBLE now. They're marketing geniuses, but they aren't even training the top jiu jitsu guys in the world anymore. They don't have anyone significant doing top level MMA training mostly with them. Anyone who does train with them trains majorly somewhere else and has them pop in and supplement them.
The Gracie's are far from legit in 2014.

AJ doesn't approve of it and to go along with it neither do I. Guys have fought for years to get to the big leagues and Punk uses his ties and pops right in there. Who cares if he fights veterans or jobbers? That's really not the point of the thing and honestly it's only thrown in there for buyrates.
I really hope Punk gets his ass kicked. I'm a fan of the guy but the idea he does something like this is annoying to me. He can go to Marvel and it's fine, he can do music and it's ok, I don't even care if Punk goes to TNA or any other wrestling promotion.
UFC though? Just like that?
Come on now.
