What are some videogames that were heavily hyped or that you wanted so much that ended up being duds? Looking at my current collection, Final Fantasy X-2 wasn't all that fun. I didn't like its format, where you had like a dozen missions off the bat and you had to complete them all before going on to the next chapter. I was also confused because I couldn't remember all those third-rate characters from the first game who appeared in this one.
Also, I didn't think Destroy All Humans lived up to the hype, and Star Ocean just plain sucked.
Earlier games include Yoshi's Story, Southpark and Bug!.

South Park easily was one of those games that was rather heavily hyped, but was mediocre at best. FF X-2 couldn't match FF X. All there is to it.
But don't forget the biggest bomb ever: E.T. for the Atari 2600. Heavily hyped, but was crap, through and through. They're still rotting somewhere in a dump in the desert as we speak.

Morrowind, hands-down.
Dude, Star Ocean ***rocks***, I love that game. However, there are a ton of other games as well....
Fable (nowhere close to how it was hyped by the creator) Halo 2

Turok: Evolution It was hyped to be the resurrection of the Turok series, and it just ends up being so bland.

The Bouncer by Squaresoft (now Square Enix). I remember how hyped it was in PSM... and it ended up sucking up the joint something FIERCE.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I followed this game for MONTHS before it was realeased hoping it would be a return to greatness from the disappointment that was MGS2, but it was just average, a total letdown for me.

Agreed on The Bouncer, it was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS2. Luckily I got Onimusha as well or I would've been sad.

Total disagreement. Did you beat it? The ending salvages any feeling of dissapointment in the game. I also thought it was a good to average game, but once I beat it, it jumped to my top three favorites. Yoshi's Story was very dissapointing for me, since Yoshi's Island is my favorite game ever. Escape from Monkey Island wasn't bad, but it didn't get anywhere close to the brilliance of the first three. And if anyone here says Shenmue, I will find you and kill you. Kill you, you hear me? Yes, the voice acting sucked and the controls were very difficult and the story was incomplete. But that game is awesome.

To me, MGS3 is far, far superior to MGS2, which was a BIG disappointment to me.
Would it make me seem like less of a man to say I nearly shed a tear at the end of 3?

I still remember, around the time the PS2 came out, State of Emergency was hyped to the moon. I work at Circuit City, and we had TONS of questions about it, and sold a ton of em.
So I rented it, to see what the big deal was. I was VERY dissapointed. That game is complete and utter crap.

halo and halo 2, all the hype and all they have is good graphics
Final Fantasy VIII, X, & X-2 none of them lived up to their predecessors much less the hype they got
E.T. all that hype and it's the worst game ever, and this is why they're are a few hundred thousand in a land fill in New Mexico
thats all I can think of right now more later
