There are a lot of people out there who are alone.

People with anxiety and don't like crowds. I think pharmacy's have to stay open normal hours, too, just in case, so if a Walgreens is 24 hours, it'll be open.

Emergency service personnel and, if there's something going on nearby, members of the media.

I work night's and always do my shopping between Midnight and 4AM on either the 22nd or 23rd. It's acutally quite crowded out there.
Some ignorant responses in this thread. Thanksgiving till XMas is peak season at my job as it is for a lot of people. Been going to work at 10AM and getting home at Midnight 6 or 7 days a week for a month straight. There isn't time to christmas shop so middle of the night is the only way to get it done.

Going to 24 hour stores late at night is hilarious, because you see the incredibly strange people not just hopping there, but working there. You also have no queues, for anything.

I normally shop between 2 and 4am. Mostly because I am up all night and there is less crowds. Sadly this shithole town only has one place that stays open after 10pm.

I'll be honest... every year up to this year, I'd be with you.
I've been a huge fan of Christmas my entire life, it's what my entire year revolved around. Not just the day, but everything leading up to the day.... it felt different, happier, more magical. I'd watch movies, I'd listen to christmas music, I'd plan and plot everything that I could do to get into the spirit.
But this year, everything has gone to absolute shit. Not just around this time, but with the loss of my mom, grandma, and relationship.... my entire view is skewed for this year. If it wasn't for my son, I might just skip Christmas entirely this year... I just feel he deserves presents. But, aside from that, I just can't get into it.
And now that I'm at a point where it's possible that by this time next year my son won't be living with me and with his mom.... I have even less to look forward to. It really feels like next year, I might just buy him some presents, drop them off, then go home and continue my day as normal..... which doesn't rule out the 3AM trips to the store, and visits to the few restaurants open on Christmas.

There are times when I'm at my office very late at night and there's a 24-hour supermarket a few doors down from my condo, so on the way home, I do my shopping at 2-3 am.
It's pretty much just me and a cashier and a stockboy. It's great. I'm in and out with no hassle.

I would really like to shop at Wal-Mart at 2-3 am just to see who's there. Not to make fun of anyone or anything, just to see who shops there that late.
