Had a thread on this a while back but it's since been archived. With a new movie coming out and new footage just released, no better time for a revival.
Any fans of this series? It's a very overlooked series by the mainstream despite some considerable cult appeal it has. The series is basically a Horror/Sci-Fi hybrid (with a significant Action element present in the second) concerning the sinister operations of an otherworldy mortician known only as The Tall Man, who employs a number of minions to help him with his bidding including robed dwarves and flying killer spheres. Sounds weird? It is, but it's so awesome and to reveal any more about the series is pretty much spoiling it. All four movies are excellent, I think 2 is the best but all are amazing and you owe it to yourself to see them if you never have.
The fifth movie (subtitled Ravager) is finally coming out after being in development Hell for more than a full decade. While it looks a bit rough from the footage released so far, I'm sure it'll look more polished and refined when it's out. A teaser has been out for months and some new footage was also recently released:
Very amped for the first new Phantasm movie in so long. Hope this'll be a good finale to the series and worth the 17-year wait since the fourth.

When I saw the thread title I automatically assumed they had remade Phantasm and was just now hearing about it. Although to be completely honest, I've only seen the first one. The image of The Tall Man is very much an iconic figure in the horror genre.
Evil has always been represented in the form of Michael, Jason, Freddy, and Pinhead. The Tall Man just adds a certain level of fear and creepiness that has yet to be surpassed in my honest opinion.

NEW PHANTASM?
Freak out! I love it. Phantasm is amazing and I had no idea a new one was on the way. The series is fantastic. Scary, funny, action packed, weirdly dreamy. It's awesome!

I like the idea of a new phantasm but that new cgi doesn't inspire me. It feels like Asylum level cgi. Now I heard the movie had a miniscule budget to work with and its still another phantasm, but still.

Loved the first two and still haven't managed to find the time to hunt down the rest.

Not happy about new Phantasm necessarily. But old Phantasm. I "discovered" that before I knew what it was from anyone else. Doggone amazing. Underrated (even though you hear a few people on the Internet talk about it). But in general, yeah, underrated.

I like th eoriginal film a lot, even though it is kind of random it is still creepy. Need to get round to watching the other 4 before I watch a fifth, maybe a Halloween challenge in 2015

Loved the first two and still haven't managed to find the time to hunt down the rest. 3 and 4 aren't as good but both are still solid and worth seeing if you liked the first two.

Phantasm is one of my favorites. I was always torn on a new movie because I felt they really did a great job of using unused footage from the original in part 4 to make things come full circle and wrap it all up.

I think 4 ended way too open to be a suitable series finale. That said I do think it did a great job of explaining the origin of The Tall Man and clearing up some other mysteries.

Look familiar?Always wanted to play the Blood games. Awesome the second game actually has the sphere from the films as a usable weapon.

I'm shocked there hasn't been a remake. Everything else in the genre has had one.

A remake actually happened almost a decade ago.
