It's called a joke. I thought the boys in the back comment would give away it was a joke to even the dimmest posters but I guess I was incorrect. The entire point I was trying to make about Foley is being physically fit gives you a much better chance of not being a cripple after you stop wrestling. When I wrestled for four years in the late 80's I was not in the best shape I could have been and paid for it later in life. It's sheer luck - not talent - that Foley is even alive, let alone walking no matter how much pain he is in to do so. Being physically fit has far more advantages than just looking better and getting Vince sexually excited, it gives you the best chance of having a decent life after you are done in the ring. Y'know what gives a wrestler a REALLY good chance of not being in pain later in life? Not wrestling like Mick Foley did. I dunno why I even said that; you clearly know and just think you're scoring some kind of anti-IWC points. And what would give them an even better chance is to not be a pro wrestler. Anyway from reading his 2nd book it seemed like he did let himself go comparatively from his title feud with the Rock til that program with HHH at to end his career at that point. So its not surprising if Vince thought so because Mick saw it in hindsight

And just like that, I learned you had no idea what you were talking about. It's called a joke. That wasn't made even slightly obvious by your post, the rest of which was pretty matter-of-fact opinions about Foley, but hey, cheerfully withdrawn nonetheless. Either way to respond to the thread, Foley has always maintained that for the majority of his career he was in deceptively good shape - look at the Mind Games match with Michaels; barely a resthold in it, and it's 27 minutes.

Not really. If anything, he said guys often joked he'd kill his gimmick if he was too in shape. completely disagree. Mankind's persona wouldn't have been enhanced had he looked like a guy who drank protein shakes and did cardio. Being out of shape was perfect for the various gimmicks Foley has had. Maniacs don't go jogging or concern themselves with reps. EDIT: yes just realised what you said, read "kill his gimmick" as in kill in the good way.

Even when he became a goofy face I think looking like that held. He looked like a regular guy who was able to compete with these giant musclemen through sheer toughness but he still like vulnerable and sympathetic.

Foley was always out of shape and never had any gains to lose in the first place. His role was to absorb punishment and take sick bumps and chair shots to make up for his lack of in ring talent and lack of proper physique. If you watch his matches he wrestles with his mouth open gasping for air as he is gassed throughout his entire match. Think if him like an obese Spike Dudley.
The boys in the back always lacked true respect for him as proven by what Rock did to him with a chair while handcuffed.
You know you suck as a wrestler when you need to agree to take a dangerous possibly life ending bump off hell in a cell to make the match decent. I did like Foley though he entertained me but I assure you he pays a heavy price for his career each and every day he gets out of bed.

Being fat fits a lot of gimmicks, Mick Foley's gimmicks, Bray Wyatt, Yokozuna, Dusty Rhodes, I couldn't see muscular or medium guys doing those gimmicks, if they lost weight and bulked up they'd be out of shape gimmick wise.

I thought he was in reasonably OK shape until some time in late '97/early '98, but I think that's when injuries starting to finally take it's toll on him, After that, it was downhill, but he always worked hard to entertain the fans, no matter what shape he was in, at least until his TNA run. That felt like him phoning it in, but maybe he just physically couldn't do more.
