Maybe I'm being crazy but I'll go out and say it. The commentary tonight was MILES better then it's been. I know Booker is not the best at commentary but having him on was much better then what we've been getting the last few weeks. We got commentary on matches that were about the match and there was no point I was wonding what in gods name were they talking about. It was so refreshing.

Booker may be stupid...
But I'll take a stupid man who cares over a smart man who doesn't.

Booker is the absolute dirt worst when he's spamming catchphrases and just rambling about non-senese.
Thankfully, that man wasn't at Raw tonight, and he was the best of the three, almost by default.

The commentary burial of the Ascension negates by far anything positive I could say about them. That was career sabotage at its worst. Complete opposite of what the job is supposed to be and I say that as someone who is not even a fan of the team... that was bush league horsesh**...

Why do I have a feeling this was a call made by Vince just because he is sick of the praise that NXT gets over his main roster creations.

Nobody was clamoring for the ascension to get called up... and very few people actually seemed to like them outside of the NXT arena. as for Booker being better than Lawler... how could you really tell Lawler barely says anything anymore when he's there... he stopped caring and the few times that he tries to say something he tends to get shouted down or talked over by JBL.

As a big fan of NXT, the Ascension have been the least impressive wrestlers on the show. Aside from maybe CJ Parker, but he's just a jobber to the stars anyway.

Apart from The Ascenion bit and JBLs ridicously over the top marking out for a Reigns Vs Big Show match the commentary was far more toned down than it usually is.
I would have to think JRs commentary at WK9 was making the rounds and people were praising him and so the commentary was toned down to come off as more comptent , I expect it back to the regular shill everything every min next week.

Booker approached it likd WCW did when it was good. Him talking about Barrett was great. Talking about his expectations, how Barrett has struggled and about his injury and how it could play into the match.
He called it like s real sport. Listening to Cole (who I like) the last 2 years or so, he sounds like he knows what's gonna happen. No drama. Wcw used to go to commercial with Bobby Heenan yelling , "No we can't cut from this! Something could happen."
WWE announces like they know nothing us going to happen.

Like I said in the RAW thread, Booker was bad at most things tonight but I didn't mind cause he wasn't this perfect robotic being spewing the corporate BS. He was like a human being, making mistakes, etc...

He could not believe how disorganized they were and most of the times, he and the other guys on the PBP didn't know what was going to happen on Nitro cause Bischoff kept changing things on the fly. And he compared it to the WWF/E where there was a meeting before the shows that was like a war room where you knew the things to be accomplished, what needed to be said and so forth. Yet I think the very reason that these guys didn't know where they were going in WCW made it more real. Remember when Sting turned on the nWo the first time. All Tony could say is: "this is Sting...! This is Sting! This is...Sting!" If this same event would have happened in the WWE for example you just know there would have a been a few catchphrases ready for JR(even as good as he was). But Tony reacted in a genuine manner and the impact was tremendous.

Yes, there were hype videos, yes Sting's a legend and you could even buy JBL being a wrestling expert that could do that, but that's giving them way too much credit.

Booker tries his best, but tonight was just abysmal. Jerry or no Jerry. The lack of enthusiasm and overall artificial tone during the Ambulance match especially bothered me. If that had been JR on commentary he would have been screaming into the mic "NO DON'T DO IT KID, NOT FOR THIS, YOUR CAREER ISN'T WORTH IT" and otherwise selling how those two were beating the hell out of each other. Cole and JBL almost acted like they were taking a nap, and Booker was far too hesitant and sounded like he was calling a golf tournament rather than a blood feud.
(yes, coming from the guy who has had Booker as his av for three years).

Personally I still dig King on commentary, and while I love Booker I'm not big on his commentary in general. If he's the color commentator I'd throw more humor in than he does oddly enough, he sort of says obvious things like a second Cole a lot of the time. Then again I guess King does that too.
My main criticism on commentary is the ol' Michael Cole repeating everything that was just said verbatim thing. When right after Steph and Triple H stopped talking at the opening, he repeats everything they just said. This to me was very silly, it's one thing to recap stuff said in say a feud from a week or two ago, but from 20 seconds ago? It would've made more sense for him to offer an opinion on what they said, instead of repeating it.
I often dig the Cole/JBL/King team, especially when they're jelling and there's a lot of good humor to it.

I love Booker's catchphrases, as they're so random and his voice makes them even funnier. He tries, and what he does works. King doesn't give a shit, and JBL and Cole work pretty well together, at least. King should be done and with his health issues as of late, he should call it a career and give the fans some well deserved change in the booth. It's insulting to other talents that try so hard will King collects a paycheck because of his name.

I'd like it if Booker became the permanent replacement for King.
